Did a lot of the lavs back then have the winch mounts left off and what were some other things specific to 1RCR lavs? (yes I know the lavs don't belong to any particular unit but just get turned over to the next roto)

I think it would be OK to leave the winch off or on. Not sure of the scale of issue, but certainly some had them and some didn't.

As for RCR-specific, not sure. You never know when a parade might spontaneously break out with the RCR, so any crew figures would be cleanly shaved and have their pants legs properly bloused.

Seriously though, while a lot of the LAV's from 2007 to the arrival of LORIT had HESCO-type steel mesh macgyver'd into side hull stowage bin, I haven't seen too many from either 1 or 2 RCR kitted out that way (this is where someone posts a photo of an I Coy LAV with a double stack of hesco mesh bins).

If you go to combat camera, try searching under "Tsuka". make sure you check the box next to "search descriptions"

CURTIS

My last tour was with 2RCR with some time with the Vandoo's. The Lav's that worked in the" Panj" were stowed with all the kit on the outside, including crew kit. As for the winch's 1 for each platoon was the norm. If you need any help PM as I have lots of photos.

Thanks for the help. I'm modeling one from the crazy 8's in 06 for a buddy of mine so I wanted to get it decently close to there's as possible.

OK, so TF 3-06, 1 RCR. That narrows it down. I like to help people who know what they are looking for.

Here are some photos of LAV-III from that time period (Op MEDUSA). I cannot vouch if they are 8 Pl , or even if they are RCR, as A Coy 2 PPCLI was also part of the RCR BG. But it would be a safe bet that a LAV built to look like the ones below is correct for September 2006.

As you can see, they do not have all the mods of later LAV-III

You should be able to build a bare bones basic LAV III based on the images GD posted......none of the images show the winch parts mounted.

I think it's one out of every four that has the winch mounted.

Usaully one winch per platoon so one in four I was with Sinful Seven with TF 1-06 with PPCLI It doesn't really matter but the RCR i think did add things to the LAV's after we left and every company had its own "SOP'S" for them. I have a buddy that was RCR in TF 3-06 and will find out the if they did any small upgrades.

Those Hesco home made baskets are actually a pretty neat and tidy way of storing kit on the vehicles.
