Hi Folks
Can anyone recommend an ABSOLUTELY matt varnish? Pretty much everything I've tried gives a bit of a sheen... often no bad thing but, sometimes, things should be dead flat...
Any suggestions much appreciated
Cheers
Rowan

Testors "1260 Dullcote" in the rattle can. Absolutely dead flat when dry.

For me Humbrol Matte Coat is the best I've found, as long as it is stirred well it has never given anything but a matt finish for me.

Hi. Always had real good luck with Testors Dullcote. And, depending on how much of it you used on a model (or now-a-days with the advent of the LARGER 1/35 scale modeling coming out), a small can of it goes quite a ways.
Take care, sgirty

Thank you one and all for your input!! :-)
My part of the UK is a bit of a modelling "black-hole". The only paint I can get locally is Revell... I'm impressed by the quality of their stuff these days (even if the paint-names do cause a few headaches when cross-matching!!) but I've never tried their varnishes...
Any thoughts?
Cheers

i used to use revell flat varnish, but i was never quite happy wth the results.
my local model-dealer approved a flat clear varnished in form of water based acrylic on tamiya basis.
"Aquieous Hobby Color H20 Flat, Clear."
I don't know if this i Gunze Color but i can highly recommend that color. Absolutly matt

I bought a a jar of model masters flat lacquer and humbrols flat cote. I tried the model master straight from the bottle... unthinned and gave it a go. I have never even opened the humbrol jar. This stuff is 100% perfect. Its a pretty big bottle as well, so will last a long time. Can change future/klear shine to a perfect flat everytime. Worth mail ordering for this results.

After getting mad for years not finding what I was looking for, the best I've found are:
Acryl:
- Vallejo Matt Varnish (not the air the one with the wite cap)
- Lefranc & Burgeois Vernis Mat a l'Eau (it's quite likely the best) that can be found at arts craft stores
Enamel:
- Testors Dullcote
- Humbrol
Ciao

Cheers everyone for the fresh thoughts :-)
I'll order some ModelMaster paints from Great Models... I can't get them in the UK, but all you US modellers seem to swear by them...
Scoccia, I've got some of the Vallejo matt varnish :-) I'm sure you've told me before, but what do you thin their paints with for airbrushing?
All the best
Rowan
