I will be beginning my build of the HobbyBoss 1/72nd scale DORA railgun, this coming week, on BlogTV I will post times of the "shows", so if you are curious, you can "tune in". I predict I will be working on it for about 2 hours a night. And may start the shows occasionally at 5 EST PM a few times, though generally 7 PM will fit my schedule.

I love when it starts to come together.

The wheel flanges are way huge, but will not be truly visible, once in place. I will mull over thinning them, before paint

2 or 3 pre recorded videos are up, on the blogtv channel.

Kirk. It is quite intricate, for 1/72nd. I am trying to find points during the build to do some pre painting. I skip throught the instructions, to add parts to subassemblies, so when I do paint, there will be less to add afterwards.

More assembly finished. The hard part, is deciding WHEN to do major painting.

Weights inside the breech, to balance the gun tube.

A clean assembly. Another model I'll chalk to my disability check.

@ J, yes, everything is in the box. weights and PE and

DECALS!
@ Matt, Clean build, until weathering time. As it is railroad based, the most it gets is travel dust.

Getting bigger. The ruler is 1 foot. Raining today, so i dare not attempt airbrushing. I may assemble some of the ladders. Odd thing is, like in the 1/35th scale Dora, you make some of the ladders rung by rung. I will leave part of them attached to the sprue, to make it easier to paint.

Figure for scale.

Cheap dust. Put it on display for a month and don't clean it. Then, dull-coat it.

Depends on the color of the local dust. Also, there can be some minor rain streaking. The hazard, is overdoing wear on a scale this small.

Yet this is such a big model for 1/72

Great to see it coming along rather smoothly

Can't wait till the paint stage....it would be interesting to find out how many bottles of each colour paint is required to do each coat

I am in the process of painting it in stages. The spanning bolsters and the 8 bogies are first. I need to get tjem done, as there are decals to apply to the span bolsters.
Also, I have assembled the "power room" which will hang below the loading area, and have that painted.
The gun and breech will be painted next.

The last of the small parts painted.

Gun painted, some touch up needed on the nooks and crannies

power unit section loading section

Main frames

I recommend painting large sections before adding too many parts. The pipes along the side of the trunnion section will create shadowed areas, which will need had painting.

quite a beast you have there. the paint looks great. I always paint in sections to avoid creating shadows. Unless of course, I use color modulation.

I was able to reach in with a brush to touch up hidden areas. I have installed the loading carts in the elevator area. This model makes you put them in the top position, the larger Soar Art, allowed infinite positioning.

Still an imposing build Carl. I may have a go at it after I start drawing unemployment.

Hi Carl,
Glad to see it coming along nicely.
Would you recommend paint (or at least pre shade) as the kit being put together?
