I probably wouldn't classify this as a diorama per se, but it was my first attempt at making a base with landscaping. I had started this back in 2009 and sporadically worked on it until I deployed. It is a Tamiya DAK Panzer II with a Verlinden Bedoin boy and donkey. I still need to finish weathering on the tank and finish painting the donkey. I am also going to use some apoxysculpt to make a large bag of grain to place over the donkey. The story is that the Panzer was out on patrol and came across the Beduoin coming home. I plan on using the Panzer as a test bed for weathering with pastels and washes. It is just one of the many projects I need to complete when I get home.
I sprayed the tank MM Panzer Grey and then went over it with the tan leaving the areas for the DAK and national symbols grey to suggest the repainting once in theatre.

Looks good. You may want to add some infantry on maneuvers; and you need to add some rocks.

very tight build there Art, clean and nice with well assembled tracks. the adding of more track marks in the sand is a good tip from Matt.

my comment would be the donkey, i would sure like to see its colouring modified as at first i thought it was a large dog. there are all black donkeys and these guys almost always would have all black legs as well.

as far as i know, it is more common to see black donkeys with the traditional white (with some grey/tan hairs) muzzles and rings around their eyes as well as a lighter belly (some would also have these colours appear in the ends of their tails).

i don't know who sculpted the donkey model for Verlinden but it has some weird aspects to its shape: the brow and head profile is more horse than donkey, the neck is the wrong thickness and doesn't reach the chest correctly (this is a fundamental difference between horses and donkeys) and the hooves are just wrong... they are large horse hooves while donkeys have much smaller hooves.

as you probably guessed i have a donkey but he doesn't get online much so i thought i would point these things out on his behalf. keep up the good work and thanks for sharing. cheers, bd.

Thanks for the replies. I hope to finish up the weathering and other small details when I get home.

@BD: I agree with you that the donkey seems to look more like a horse. As for the coloring, it just has some dark gray paint on it to check the seams. I will be painting it to look like a donkey. The bottoms of the legs are still bare resin at the moment.

I have various projects that are WIP. Sometimes I think I have modeling ADHD!

would like to add another comment. in the last picture, you should probably tell the donkey to stop napping in front of the panzer's tracks. could end up with a very flat burro. all in all though, its a good diorama, although i would have to agree that the donkey needs a recolor. also, the tanker has too much white painted in his eyes. its more realistic in scale if the eyes are more pupil than white. they way you have it now, it looks like hes staring at something sort of a "deer in headlights " look. perhaps he is looking at the sad terrifying fate of the donkey beneath his tracks? just my 2cents.
