Does anyone know of a less expensive alternate to Woodland Scenics Water? I know this is a great product but I'm doing a dio that requires quit a bit of it and would like to use something a little less brutal on my "wife's" wallet. Thanks

First reply seems to have gone who knows where. If transperancy does not matter, use celuclay, paint and coat with a gloss coat. You can use acrylic medium gel for eddies or waves.

Something I have always wanted to try as I have been told is great for sculpting water, is a clear gel for oil paints. I dont know exactly what its called, but your local art supply store should definitely know.

let me explain, ever buy oil paints? they cost a fortune and even artists can be cheap too sometimes. So when they do those iol paintings with thick raised globs of paint it consumes volumes. what they do is ass this thick gel to the paint that is really inexpensive, and builds the body of the paint up. If you know what seafood extender is from the supermarket,, its kinda the same thing - but for paint.

Anyways last time I quoted some from the art store they wants about $50 Australian for about 4 liters of the stuff. Go see how much 4 litres of woddland water stuff costs..

The gel is sculptable, and of course will dry clear. perfect for dioramas.....

I have not tried this, but it was suggested to me a few years ago when I was working on my Titanic sinking diorama.

just a suggestion.

PS if you want 'still" or calm water, just two part epoxy surfacing resin. the product I used is called "glass magic" which I borrowed from me mum (bless her), she does folk art and they pour this stuff over the top to seal the art and it dries rock hard crystal clear and can be layered for depth, and costs about $10au for two 500ml bottles. when dry it looks like glass....

I would price this stuff I've used in the past.
Resin Feature The feature focuses on making parts, but I've used this stuff for the majority of my water in diroamas
