As George pointed out, there was the Commanders 1/35th scale kit of the M103A2 in resin. Commanders went out of the tank business some years ago to concentrate on their highly profitable resin ship line, but just a few weeks ago, they announced they were jumping back into resin tanks again, so your timing is perfect.
Accurate Armour in Scotland promised a 1/35th M103 kit some years ago, but it seems never to have materialized.

Georg/Gerald, thanks for your replies. Seems like Commanders is back in full swing once again. I already have their M1 Combat Car, M2A1 and M2A4 light tanks, Ford 3t tank, and T1E2. They have promised to dredge up their M22 Locust and T3 Christie conversion sometime in the spring. Just in case they pull out the old M103 molds again, I'll be keeping your build on the M103 very handy, Georg. Great job and a very nice looking model. This is great news , especially since I just paid my yearly income taxes.

The status of the M103 is as follows. All of the master parts have been located, except for the hull. We believe we know where it is, but it's been a problem of getting it back from there. As soon as we are able to get it, we're planning on reissuing the kit on a limited run basis.
Tom is correct in that we have returned to the armor business, and we're slowly getting things back into production. The line will be a combination of some of the older kits (M1 combat car, M2A4, T1E2, etc.), and new kits which we are building (M2A1, M2A2, M2A3, T7/M1 Scout Car, M561 GamaGoat, etc.). You can see a listing of what's available and what we're working on here:
http://ironshipwrights.com/armor/armor.html
Also, there are a couple of things we may have at AMPS East in April which we're not sure about, and so they're not listed. Finally, the T3 Christie conversion is being rebuilt to be used with the new Tamiya BT kit, and that may be ready in time for the AMPS show.

Mark Hazzard continues to work (albeit ever so slowly ) on his M103. Being a perfectionist, Mark has told me he's rebuilt the hull & turret several times to get it as accurate as possible.
The price of perfection, of course, is time.

Jon,
I still have a first generation casting of my master for the turret, hull, main gun and several smaller parts needed to make an accurate M103A2. If you're interested, please PM me. It needs a little clean-up, but it's in really good shape

@Sabot, searchlight duty was the one thing my crew WANTED to do, no hanging around humping ammo at the range loading area.

Right up until the crew going downrange picked up the searchlight tank rather than the illuminated target. Never saw a crew button up quicker than that time...

I just got to climb around an M103 today (in Radcliff, KY) and took a bunch of pics of it. Of course, I immediately came back to my laptop to see how I could convert an M48 into a 103, but I guess it would be far more scratchbuilding than initially anticipated. Glad to see the resin kit will be reissued soon!

Since we all going on about the M103 ,,what about them building a M 51 Heavy Armored Recovery Vehicle of the USMC ..based on the same chassis aint it ? ,,now that would be a nice model to add the collection and BIG to ..by the way does anyone make a kit of that machine ?

Update on the M103 kit. All of the parts have been cast, and can be previewed here:
http://ironshipwrights.com/armor/M103.html
We're now working on update the instructions to take in the new hull design and other parts. Look for the kit to be ready for sale shortly. And, since this is a heavy tank, it does call for a follow on...

Hi Guys,
I don't want to belittle Jon's efforts, but be aware that the lower hull of the M103 is much pointier than the kit portrays. I am guessing that the masters were created from mating 2 Tamiya M-48 hulls together which isn't quite right. That being said, many detail parts can be pilfered as the kit parts are just resin copies of the Tamiya parts. The kit is impressive, no matter of its faults. Since Mark H. has never gotten around to finishing the M103 from Accurate Armour, this is the only game in town. Good luck!
Regards,
Georg

As another minor point for those wishing to correct it, the shapes of the suspension mounts on the M103 are considerably different than those in the resin kit. The one shown are a direct copy of the mounts in the Tamiya kit and are overly simplified. Just a head's up.
