Ok

some time ago we talked about this campaign idea.
Now, I'm going to try and make "official rules" so it can be accepted and launched !

Seeing that everyone's interest is WWII, I think it's better to stick with that timeperiod only. If you feel like building something early or modern, please tell us and we'll se if we should expend !
This timeframe will give the possibility to see "factory fresh" aircraft and also "extremely weathered" aircraft !

subject :
planes flown by the japanese army or navy during war in China and WWII

3 categories :
beginner intermediate expert

Every modification to the kit, use of AM material at any price, is allowed. Just don't list yourself as a beginner in such case.

running time :
that's the difficult part, because we don't want to run on the toes of another campaign...
I think that 2 1/2 or 3 month should be right.
my proposition : 24th of december till end of march
That's where some "official hand" could help us !

Everyone finishing his model on time will receive a ribbon !

people interested, from what was said in the earlier post :
penpen
merlin
holdfast
SS74
whiterook
bytepilot
shado1
twistedfate
warlock0322
vlady
tazz
Siggi

So that's 12 already !
Now, I'm waiting for your input !

If you think this campaign is not a good idea and it would be better to do something else, please say it ! Then we'll change it to an "unofficial group build" for those interested !

Penpen - I think the "Rising Sun" idea is a good one, and the timeframe works too. The major difference between a Campaign and a Group Build is that the campaign has a Journal Folder created for it here on site. You already have the participation and the rules setup fine enough to call it a "go" for Group Build. If all the participants want to make it a Campaign - let me know and I'll send the information over for Journal Folder consideration.

For the next couple of months I'll be away from the site for brief periods of time. There's a great deal of Campaign activity that goes on daily. Your post helped me out because it is very time consuming to surf back and try to catch up again - I'll miss some ideas!

Thank you gunny !
It's nice to see you back !

several people asked me to place this post because they wanted this idea to become a campaign. I'll ask the others !

Hi penpen and GunTruck

I'm definitely still keen on the Rising Sun campaign. :-)

Like most of us, I'd be entering a WW2 era aircraft, so the suggested period is fine by me... sounds like the perfect excuse to try some new painting and weathering techniques... :-)

I hope enough people come aboard to warrant a full campaign.

All the best

The time scale is fine with me. I had planned on doing a modern jet, but I can build a WWII craft instead. Keep me as a tentative yes. I'm having a hard time finding the motivation to build lately so I'm not sure I'll finish the 2 campaigns I'm in now, but I'd like to give this a go if I find my groove again.

:-) Yep this sounds perfect for me, I have been putting off building Japanese subjects, because of the weathering. This is what I need, maybe next year will be a rising sun year for my modelling :-) Of course I prefer WWII and intend to build a couple of models. Probably a Kawanishi N1K1 Kyofu type 11 float plane, to try out my weathering technique, then if all goes well Betty bomber :-) Looking forward to this :-) Thanks penpen

Now I've read gunny's policies about campaign.
So, why not change this campaign into an "oficial group build" ?
We could still hae our medal, I think !
It would be just as much fun, and it would place less stress on the organization of the site.

People interested just need to say so in this thread or send me a PM if they prefer.

Hi penpen

Confusion over whether Rising Sun was going to happen has caused me to stumble into the current debate over campaign policies.

In my previous post, I said...

Quoted Text

I hope enough people come aboard to warrant a full campaign.

... now, to be honest, I'm not so sure!

Checking the campaign journals for the Age of Aces shows most of them are empty...

If the main difference between a Campaign and a Group Build is these journals, there's not not much point in adding the extra pressure to the site for a feature so few people use!

I'm left wondering what's the point of a full Campaign... hopefully, if we chose to go all out to make this a Campaign, Rising Sun builders will be committed... and can show by example how things should be done!

If we're gonna do it, let's do it right. :-)

All the best

Tazz : during the build, we'll try to keep "update" threads alive, probably in the Rivet review Board !

Either way it goes Campaign or group build I'm in. Been a while since I built a Pacific Theater plane.

Hi penpen,

Count me in. But I'd prefer it if the starting date is sometime next year, like after Jan 15 or something. I'd like to take a breather after the WoW campaign, which gets over by Dec 15, and I also have some Indian AF planes to be made in parallel for submission at ARC for India's Republic day(a 1/48 Mig 21 MF(1/2 completed), a 1/72 Jaguar and a 1/72 DeHavilland Vampire).

So please let me know if we can start sometime in the middle of January..

Thanks,
BP.

hello Bytepilot !

You know, he starting day is the day wen we can start building, and not the day when we should start building. If more people think that 15th of january is the best time, then we'll change ! But otherwise, you can start anytime after the 24th of december.
Then , if you feel you don't have enough time, we can give you 2 more weeks or so...

Penpen - the Campaign Committee is still discussing this idea. It sounds like a very good one for one of the Aircraft Focus' 2004 Campaigns. We're not going to start up anymore Campaigns for 2003 that haven't already been slated. The January 15th start date would work well for the 2004 Campaign Calendar.

Hi penpen

No problem here if we postpone until the new year! It'll give more time to really stoke up some interest! :-)

'Till then, what with WoW and the N. Africa builds, there's plenty to keep me busy... :-)

All the best

:-) Yep, I think 15th Jan start date is a good idea. Lots of other stuff going on at the moment. :-)

It sounds easier to make it a group build rather then a campaign as long as the ones who finish recieve a nice shinny medal to impress the girls.

It's not only a matter of having a medal, but also a matter of not stepping on someone else's toes ! If we all organise group builds at the same time we'll all have choices to make : not take part to something interesting because you've started something else... A bit of organisation may first seem a fun-killer but in fact it often helps !

So, after moving from an appartment to another... I'm back !
That was a bit of work... and it's still going to be for some time ! lately painting was done "in big scale" for me !

So, guys, are you still OK for this one ?
I've got many kits in the japanese WWII pile... but I think I'll settle on a KI-61 ! It's the hasegawa 1/48th scale kit plus eduard PE.
