Hello All!

M1117 Guardian I have in progress.

What would be the best colors to use a primer (black or brown), and the topcoat color for it? I'd like to paint it as an in-country vehicle in Iraq...

Also, what's the best way to simulate the antiglare color in the periscopes?

Enjoy, and critique! Not the best of pics, but I don't have a lightbox...

Its looking good so far. Good work on construction.

For colors, you can go either 3-color NATO camo or sand, either is correct for an in-country vehicle. I can't give you any tips on priming or preshading (seems like that is what you are really asking about since primer is usually grey). I don't prime nor preshade my models. For the topcoats though, Testors Model Master (MM) Sand is the closeset to the CARC sand color. For NATO camo, I use MM Medium Green, MM Field Drab, and MM Flat Black.

To do the vision blocks, first paint them black. Next put a couple coats of clear red, then a couple coats of clear gloss on them.

To preshade, I use color modulation. Black behind the tire and white on the hub caps. I do this using rattle cans. Also, black outline around the turret and on the front of the lower hull and along any of the concave angles. Everything else white. Thin your paint to about 50/50 or 60/40 p/t and build up light coats. After you have done this, go back and highlite the convex angles with paint from the bottle.
