I haven't been around here in quite a while, but I finally pulled a kit out to start working on. It'll be an out of the box build, and nothing fancy. Just throwing it together to put something on the shelf.

I hope to get some paint on it tomorrow. No airbrush access right now, so it's rattle cans and Silly Putty.

And Camo!
Now I remember that the Tamiya spray cans aren't the most accurate colors. The dark yellow is actually green and the red brown is just, well, brown.

Hey Bruce, long time no see, not since the good ol' days at Hobby Annex. Looks like a good, clean build and the colors don't look too bad, considering you're dealing with rattle cans. If you would like, send me a private message to see if we can get you some time with my airbrush setup. I've tried doing the the Silly Putty masking a couple of times, but your results look a lot better than what I ended up with.

Nice work so far Bruce. I was interested to see you start with green as your base colour when most I have seen start with the yellow, was there a specific reason you started with green or is it just the way you do it?

What kind of putty did you use to get such a sharp effect?
Great job so far though!

Hey Jim! Good to see you! Yeah the colors are okay, I just don't care for the "yellow" too much. I forgot those were the same green and yellow I used on a P-40 a while back and didn't care for that much either. But, eh. Like I said, just something to throw on the shelf.
And thanks for the offer for the airbrush, I may take you up on it.

To be honest, because I had more green paint than yellow.

Original Silly Putty. That took almost 3 eggs but I could have put it on thinner and made it go further.
And if anybody tries that with hot paints like a lacquer, you might want to let the putty set for a bit after the last coat before removing it. the really thin spots will get really stringy, the paint kind of melts the putty a little.

Alrighty then, give me a call at 214-328-3276 and we'll see what we can work out as a good time to make it happen . . .
I noticed the bottle of Tabasco in the later shots (brown and unmasked) do you add that before or after the base coats?

Maybe added to the brown that would make for a better red-brown?

After seeing this- https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/3640 I guess the Tamiya dark yellow isn't that far off.

It's funny. With all that putty on it and the brown paint,it looks like melting chocalate, but wow, what a great job it does with the camo pattern.Looking foward to following this one.

Thanks! I hope I do a decent job when it comes to weathering, I still don't have washes down all that well.
What color wash would anyone recommend for this?

I think I'd go with a burnt umber/ dark brown wash to help blend the camo scheme

And now a bunch of camouflaged road wheels. I didn't bother camoing the inner wheels. Next to paint the rubber and get them mounted, then start on all the tools and other detail bits and get all that mounted.

I got the road wheels on and just paper clipped the tracks on for a pic.
How's it looking so far?
