Since I started keeping track of our ranking on Alexa (www.alexa.com) a few weeks ago, it has gone from 186,000 to 99,052! This is a huge change. This means according to them Armorama is one of the top 100,000 sites on the Internet. Not a huge deal but our recent site usage figures (according to them) show we are headed even further down the list. My goal would be we can be one of the top 10,000 sites.

Cheers,
Jim

Wow. That rating takes into account every website in existence?! In the top 100,000 is pretty darn good, especially for a site dealing with what some people would call "a dead hobby." Congratulations, Jim

The target is very ambitious and, I think, is also quite tough to achieve... but why don't have a try? It woud be absolutely outstanding!

I have an idea which might mean we can achieve this for you Jim.
If we all set armorama to our home page this will help up our ratings. I have my home page set at this and even on the very few occasions when im not looking at armorama but need to get on to the net it will still be the initial page, which for a lot of people i suppose will be yahoo or msn etc. If we do this it will increase the number of logins / visitors to the site. Which will up our ratings and theres nothingt worng withj that (but theres plenty wrong with my typing! Thought i'd leave the mistakes in there! #:-) )
So for those of you that dont know how to do this but would like to here we go-
1. Double click on my computer on your desktop.
2.Double click on control panel.
3.click internet options
4.You will see that the first box is titled home page and is highlighted, either type in the web address for armorama. or copy and paste this link
https://armorama.kitmaker.net
5.when this is done click on ok and your home page has now been changed.

While I actually tried to disway members from doing that in the past (post dedicated server) it would be fine at this point to make the homepage your start-up page. Now that part of it is cached it's no longer so database intensive as it once was.

Also while I am talking about rankings if anyone has a site of their own and does not yet have a link to Armorama, please add one. I was dismayed a bit yesterday to see our Google rank go from 5 of 10 to 4 of 10. This means our search pages will rank lower a bit. One of Googles ranking specs is the number of sites linking to you so any additional sites linking to us would be great. I have been endeavoring to get sites like AMPS to add us for a while now. If you know of a site that you frequent that might add us please contact them and request they add Armorama to their link list.

Thanks,
Jim

The target is very ambitious

Fabio,
I thought so too (in fact I alsmost wrote 50,000 at first). But for todays stats they are showing this site as # 23,398. We are getting close already! :-)

And I must say when using the comparison feature we are womping the butts off of ML and Hyperscale.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi,

I'll do my best to put AA where it deserves to be.

I'll check if other sites I use to go have the AA link on their links pages.

Hi Jim

This is great news, and just goes to show that Armorama really IS the best modelling community - bar none!!

But before anyone gets complacent, I have to say I think the one area we're weak in is Previewing/Reviewing. Sad to say, at the moment I still check elsewhere for news and reviews...

Your Favourite Website Needs You!!

Yes You!!... Armorama members can make a direct input and take us to the top of the league. Come on everyone - get writing! We all have something worthwhile to say about the kits we're building.

Lets really try to make Armorama a one stop shop!

All the best

Armorama is one of the best sites I ever knew, so I think that naturaly it will be in the first places. Is just a matter of time. :-)
If this helps, I´ll make the home page my frontpage in my office and home computers.
Huurrrraaaayyyyy for Armorama :-) :-) :-)

JIm,

The Alexa ratings for sites like ML and Hyperscale that use off-site forums like Network54.com do not show a true result since the views of their forums count towards the result of the off-site forum, Network54.com or whatever. So with ML, for example, the result should be much better. In my case since I have an NNTP-based forum system my result is also not accurate and should be better. Your result would be accurate (as far as Alexa can be accurate).

In the spirit of inter-site co-operation I will make a links page, something that I do not have anymore, and place a write up and link about Armorama at the top if you send me one. If you want a banner on this page then I would want to link to it on your server as I don't want to pay for the bandwidth of hosting it on mine.

Paul.

Paul,
Doh! Now I feel silly of course as you are so right about the forum usage with them using "off-URL" forum locations.

Thanks for the offer of a link on a links page. I would be happy to host any image used for that. I will let you know which one and a url when I get back from my "LA weekend". Not much work getting done this weekend.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim,
What does Alexa measure ? Hits ? Pageviews ? Individual users/day ?

Don't worry too much about the rating. Most of the top 20.000 are porn sites anyway

Jan,
The information is gathered from people using the Alexa toolbar or Google toolbar so it's akin to a "Neilson" type TV rating system we have here in the states. That being one that is a select group of users.

I have to say though looking at other ratings of sites their system seems to be right on target.

Cheers,
Jim

PS: You are probably right about the porn sites

Holy cow! This is amazing. Jim, hats off to you and everyone here at Armorama.

If you consider how many sites there are on the internet to be in the top 30,000 is truely amazing.
