Hi all,
I have read many times about modelers using a silver pencil for adding weathering.
What kind of pencil is this? Is it a pastel chalk silver pencil? An oil type of pencil?
I would like to give this a try on my next model but want to make sure I get the right thing.
Thanks for your help.
I have a small, new personal web site that I have been working on. I am a real newbie at html and ftp but with help from some of you guys and other friends I am finally getting it working and straightened out. Thanks to all who have helped. For anyone who would like to check it out just use my selected link below this post. Hope you like it and sign my guest book while you are there.

:-) The one I use is a simple colouring pencil. Any make will do, mine, at the moment, is a Derwent metallic (silver 80). I apply the silver pencil after the matt coat, to give the pencil something to "bite" on. Be thoughtful when using it, think where the paint would be chipped; dzus fasteners, hatches, fuel filling points, wing leading edges, where pilot and ground crew walk etc. :-)

The make that I use is a "Faber-Castell" silver pencil. I purchased mine at an artist supply store.

Hi wayne
Here a few others in case you can't get hold of what's been suggested...
Derwent's Pewter 81 is nice - a bit duller than silver
Berol/Karismacolor Silver 949
Caran D'Ache Prismalo 1 999.948
All the best

There's also a pencil called Prismacolor by Sanford, one called steel #PC1041, avaliable at most artist supply stores.

I also use the Berol Prismacolor silver art pencils and I get them at my local art supply. While you're there, they also have a number of other colors that you'll find handy from time to time. I've got quite a few colors handy.

I use an oil color pencil from the local art store. Also, I use a regular lead pencil for a much more subtle indication of wear. Silver can be overpowering at times. Burnished lead pencil gives that dark worn look that is there just before the raw, unoxidized metal is reached. Have fun!
