hey guys, just wanted to share this build of a BMP1
It's the old Italeri/Dml kit, didn't wanne wait till christmass for the possible Trumpeter release
I made some slight mods to the vehicle, some details , some small hooks as I found in various photo's, some added for my own pleasure( like the strapholders around the intake grilles, too many , but it looked good )
added some detail to the sides of the hull, hinges and some holes
filled the periscopes ,added wires to the searchlights, filled in the joints ad the front , where the hull meets the top, big gap
lost an anchorage point so I made 2 new ones, addded the spring thingy underneath it,
changed the gunmantled somewhat,it came close enough for me
added a layer of ballistic mat to the turret (as found in this walk around
http://dishmodels.ru/wshow.htm?p=1864
and this one (the same vehicle?)
http://www.thetankmaster.com/ENGLISH/afv/bmp-1_01.asp
made a smoke launchre rack on the back, and I put some left over T72 smokegranades in them (guess not correct, but what the heck )
I also found a way to kind of put the tracks on, don't know if it hasn't been told before, but filling the links a little, so the become smaller in lenght makes them sit easier on the sprocket, I also had to cut back some on 2 theeth of the innerside of the sprockets, they hit the recoildamper,
except for the usual scraping and sanding the parts that's about it
some pics to illustrate
the boxart
closing the hull bottomsides
the gap!!
this needs some sanding!
put some car body filler on, and sand smooth
lost anchor, decide to make new
some details
front with "home made" anchors
turret, removed ventilatorhole and added new , slightly raised one myself
as seen on walkaround, added some ballistic mat on driver and commandershatch
added the "bolt and washers" to secure ballistic mat on turret and hatches
hope you like, I'll be painting soon, any suggestions, plain green like walk around, or green black, yellow?
or green black grey?
I want it to be in the caucasus regional war theater for dio purpose

I'm recently a fan of the BMPs and Russian armor in general. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

You're welcome Tha
I've found another site entirely dedicated to BMP-1
http://bmp-info.ru/
I've noticed that if you write БМП-1 in google research engine, you can find a lot of references
Other references

Slovac BVP-1 walkaround in temporary summer scheme
Another Slovac BVP

BVP-1 is the czech denomination of BMP-1 so you can use this noun for your internet researches
Anyway you can find some other pics of Czech-Slovak BMP BVP

Tha Pit- really great job on the build. Looks awesome. If it was me painting it I'd go for that weird red/black/light green/green in the picture Mauro posted- thats one weird scheme!

I noticed that I don't see any seem lines on the barrel. Is it a one piece part?

BVP-2
BVP-1 Svatava (it is a reconnaissance vehicle "Svatava" based on BMP-1 chassis. Is known by the acronym BZpV. It is actually a BVP-1 with extended equipment for research in the rear.)

@Karl; thank you!
"If it was me painting it I'd go for that weird red/black/light green/green"
sadly this is too intense for me
wonder what mushrooms it took to come up with that crazy combination
@Matt; the barrel is the kitpiece, it's a solid bar, and the endcap is separate with a "un"round hole in it
but with some sanding and filling i managed to clean it up, and your post confirms I did a good job too
thanks
@tom; "Can you replace the moulded on shovel?"
it is a seperate piece in the kit, as far as my memory can recall
I'll check my other hulls tomorrow, and will correct info then
@Roy; thanks for your nice reply
and last but not least
@Mauro; DAMN your good!
where in gods name do you find all that stuff...
anything I throw at you , you find some really intresting and some weird info , pics, drawings...
I hope fellow modelers who read the topic later on have as much fun in looking at those links, pics as I am having now

No secrets, Just some tricks using the internet research keys
Other intersting exemplars which I've found are:
Georgian Bvp-1p
Georgian bvp-1pk
"This is the BMP-1PK variant. The "K" indicates it is a command "komandni" variant. At the rear of the hull are two inlet plugs, "the commander's bellpushes" with an antennal mount beside them. There are no firing ports on the starboard side."
georgian BMP 1 with rocket launcher
All pics were taken in Georgia in 2001
You can find other stunning russian stuff pics here

Deffinitely go for it. Looks like all you need is some tubing, a punch, styrene sheet and a circle cutter.

You might want to alter that front panel on hull top as it's neither correct shape or size?

Another pic:
Hi Jacques. Look here
The caption said: "MT-LB With 57mm Aircraft Rocket Pack Georgia 1998. 57mm aircraft rocket pack, still on the weapons pylon, attached to the turret of an MT-LB APC."
That's incredibly ingenious. Maybe on the BMP-1 there's a similar field modification
cheers

I saw something similar on what I thought was an MT-LB. But it wasn't, it was this:
I posted it myself a while ago and it was identified by a member on armorama called Erik Van Rosen as a Yugoslavian M-60P.
Its in a museum in Sarajevo. Pretty cool looking machine.

first of all, thanks Mauro, I guess you can read minds too, I was about to start a topic concerning my future build of some BMP2's
, watching this post evolve, I've seen some wicked conversions I could make, but I'm too far into the build to add the rocket launcher, nor will I correct the front 'wash plate'
we should open a topic "I put a rocket on my AFV", we allready have some cool stuff here, and Kamil's topic
http://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/175412&page=1
is also rocket "enhanced
wonder how long the welds on the rollbar/rocket launcher will hold, looks like a lot of fun when the rocket starts blasting, and suddenly rips off the mount....run!!
LOL
greetz, and thanks for all the info/reply's
