Sorry Poindexter, but a waanbes third hand knowledge does not trump a Veterans operational knowledge. Move on.

Lovely pics !

Thanks for posting KA

The modernisation programs of these Leo's really does open up the opportunities here doesn't it ?

BTW: I'm sold on a Vets' 'Hands On' experience in any 'discussion' on arms, armor, and ordinance

Keep the good info coming Mike

Even though it was dismissed here as being the "cousin" of a European design (it is not) and having a "shot trap"; the Leo 2-NG apparently took the IDEF 2011 defence exhibition by storm. Leo 2-NG is now a contender for every Leopard 2 modernization program in the world, and there seems to be immense interest in it. If it wins an order from a country other than Turkey, we might even see a model kit from Hobby Boss one day??

I don't understand "dismissed" ! Saying this Turkish upgrade is a cousin of the German one is in no way a criticism. It is just noticeable when you look at both tanks.
And it is obviously a cousin, they both belong to the Leo2 family and feature the same upgrade concept That doesn't mean anything else in my mind. No bad thought there.

I understand. They obviously use similar AMAP add-on armor packages from IBD-Deisenroth; so they may indeed be cousins in that sense.

Hi everyone,

I agree with Oliver, this upgrade is of course a cousin of Leo 2 Evolution, they are both Leopards and they are using same add-on armor system from same company, but that's all. The Leopard 2 NG (Leopard 2 T, they are the same) is going to use by Turkish Armed Forces in a couple of months, the firing tests are going on these days. It has the Volkan FCS, SARP remote weapon system and indigenous electronic systems made and developed by ASELSAN, same company designed the add-on armor (with the Turkish Armed Forces) but armor made and installed by IBD - Deisenroth. Turkey have 340-350 Leo 2A4's, all of them will be upgraded.

And the Leopard 2 T was the star of the IDEF 2011, it received a lot of interest even more than the new Altay MBT mock-up..

So let's wait for more information and photos to come so that somebody can do a conversion kit.

I'm currently working on Zvezda's T-80 BV, but also researching the Leo 2T (NG), it has a very asymmetric shaped turret, massive add-on armour on the hull and finally slat armour on the rear hull and rear turret

It will be very hard to scratch all of this upgrades on a Leopard 2A4 accurately but i will give a try, i don't think there will be a conversion for it, at least for a couple of years
