Why won't my Badger Airbrush work.
Posted: Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 01:09 AM UTC
Hi everyone...I just bought a single action Badger Airbrush and I cant get it to spray correctly.( Admittedly this is the first single action brush i have bought and I am not used to it yet.) It will spray the pure solvent wonderfully..but when i mix the paint ( Pactra & Tamiya acrylics, to the consistancy of milk)...It will not spray. I have tried to thin the paint but then it's too thin!I had to buy an adapter for the airbrush and drill a 1/32 hole in it to prevent back pressure...could this have soething to do with it...i mean I think i'm getting enough pressure. If anyone has any ideas or tips please let me know...i'm at my wits end (not far to go to reach that point). I have a lot of painting to do and no tool to use! Thanks...Bodeen

What's your air source? and more importantly what's the feed pressure for the airbrush

Crossbow..my source is an oilless diaphram compressor and as for the pressure....i don't know. It doesn't have a gauge. i never had problems like this before with my other airbrushes and this compressor. It's probably just that too much air is escaping from the vent hole in the compressor fitting. I'll try to replace that and if it doesn't work then I don't know what I'll do. Jeff

ok this might help take the air bush apart and clean it soak the nedle and all the small parts in thiner.
then put it back together.
and make sure u have a braied line when youuse for the compressor .
u are geting enough pressue.
cause i dont have a reg on my compressor.
it might be the air bush try model master arcli paint just mix the paint really well.
and strain the model master cause model master dont have to be thined.
other then that take the air brush back and exchange it or call up bager

I would first get a gauge for your compressor. It is the best way to tell if your compressor is still outputing correctly. Once you are positive you have the correct feed pressure, you can then look into other areas for the problem. You may find that you have to get a regulator for your compressor also. Anyway, the first step in troubleshooting an air problem is making sure the feed is at the correct pressure.

Bodeen--
The symptoms you describe tell me your airbrush works (straight thinner sprays, really thin paint sprays, your ideal mix doesn't)
Is the fitting you drilled the hole in the one that adapts a 1/2 inch to a 1/4 inch hose? If so, the hole is not the problem, they usually have that hole in them anyway. If you are still thinking it is, before you buy another fitting, cover that one with electrical tape or better and try your mix again.
if that doesn't work, clean the airbrush and try a slightly thinner mix. Every single problem I've ever had was due to my mix.
Best airbrush I ever had was a Badger 350. Easy to use (who needs double action?) and pretty tolerant. I bought a 200 and hate it. But that's another story...

Does the paint jar from which you're spraying have an air hole? It may be clogged.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am going out to the garage today and look at all of the items you gentlemen have suggested. I work nights so it's off to beddy bye for now!
And if anyone lives in the Hermitage/Sharon,Pa./Youngstown,Ohio area there is a great show and swap meet at the Hermitage National Guard Armory on Sat. I'm not sure of the time but it's in the new FSM. Thanks again! Bodeen
