Hi folks,
I've been repainting some infantry and working on some new figuers. The bulk of this batch are from Resicast. I started collecting them up about 5 years ago, had a go at painting them, and didn't like the result much, so I put them aside. The recent review of the Archers 53rd Infantry Division patches sparked a need for something to display the patches on and try them out so I got them out again to start over.
These are a WIP, I need to get a couple of new fine brushes to finish them off. Only trouble with painting resin is that the sharp edges tend to descimate your brushes.
Anyway here's some progress.
First up the 2inch Mortar team:
I normally don't bother much with small bases but I painted this one up anyway and it's quite a neat little base, if you just want to display the figuers on their own.
Next along:
The Vickers Medium Machhine Gun Team. I might switch out a couple of heads here and give them Mk II or Mk III camo helmets, at least the chap carrying the stand.
and a directing Officer
Then on to some walking Infantry, some old some new.
An Offcier and wireless operator with another kneeling infantryman.
Then another Officer and RMP chap
I wasn't really sure how I might use them but as things have developed I think they would fit well crossing a Bailey Bridge.
Anyway hopefully a few new brushes tomorrow and they might start to look reasonably acceptable.

Nice effort Alan
The figures are coming along nicely .
You might even be able to get some of the Tamiya British walking infantry mixed in with them as they look like the same height and scale .
Throw some hornet heads on them and they will work good in with the Resicast figures .
Cheers

Hi Michael,
Thanks. Yes, the Tamiya set fit prettyy well with the Resicast troops. The only noticable difference to me is that their weapons are slightly thicker. which I actually prefer.
It's hard to beat the detail on the Resicast figuers though. Anyway must crack on.
Cheers

Hi folks,
When I bought the 2" mortar team a few years back I remember thinking at the time the bodies might make a good Bren Team. so at some past point I got another set with this in mind as prone troops can be handy. Here's a couple of possible options for the set as either straight infantry men or as a Bren Team.
A bit more work on the Wirless Operator.

Hi Gerard,
The detail and accuracy of these older figuers, sculpted by your good self, still knocks the socks off most modern stuff. Few others have attempted to give the variety of detail/accuracy and options these chaps offer. Painting them, at which I'm not that good, is a pleasure.
It's good to see you back and I'm enjoying the new range, and appreciate the fuller body approach.
If you ever have the time a few medics would be very useful and if the order of dress is chosen wisely they would fit from 1939 to 45 without much trouble and just about any unit .
Keep up the great work and good to see you sculpting again. Many thanks for your comments.
Cheers

Nice looking figures . What color and brand of paint did you use for the uniforms ? Enamel , Oil , or Acrylic ? Or did you mix your own color ? The pictures match up quite well to the Battle Dress jacket I have . And I've never been able to find a paint match .

Hi Jim,
I use Vallejo English Uniform 70921. It's the nearest I've come across yet. I believe Tamiya XF 49 Khaki is close to the Canadian Colour but I haven't done any Canadian Infantry yet so can't say for sure.
The Resicast Figuers have amazing detail.

Hi Darren,
Thanks, I hope to get them finished by next week. I will probably add the walking Bren Team, they are a set I haven't got yet. I need to get started in the armoured campaign lol lol but things just keep popping up
It was worth re-painting the ones I'd already done. Like the Paras the detail is terrific.

Hi folks,
Well I've advanced these about as far as I can at the moment. I used the Archers 53rd Infantry Uniform Patches. For the MG Team The Manchester Regiment and for the Infantry the East Lancs. Unfortunately not quite enough shoulder and Div patches to complete them all - so a pause until I organise another set to finish them off.
Still a couple of rifles to add for the mortar team and some boots need repainted. I had a nice antenna on the wireless but dropped the figure on the way to the table
I think the alternative Bren team from the mortar set works well as a couple of prone chaps covering the advance. The bases are just generic to show the troops a bit better.
One draw back on the Bailey Bridge throught is that I believe Bronco did the M2 the American Version but I'll need to find out a bit more on that.

Hi folks,
Some additions I'm working on: the Bren Team. Again beautifully detailed figs, there was a bit of pour spillage under the crotch of one chap and on the reverse of one of the heads but other than that excellent figs. You get an alternative arm for the chap with the Hare if you don't want to use it.

Hi Alan,
How long is that ruler?
With a little bit of surgery to his arm, I can see that 2" mortar loader replacing a Bren gun magazine and maybe the other figure holding the gun.

Hi Tom,
Long .
Yes, I always thought the Mortar Team would double as a Bren team. I just switched the arms as I wanted them watching rather than firing but a little work would indeed create a more active pair.
Cheers

Hi folks,
Some mroe troops I'm working on this time some Irish Guards, from the 3rd Battalion.
Figuers from left to right are:
Wee Friends, Wolf, Wolf, Wolf and Wolf .
These are slightly fuller figuers that the Resicast ones and I thoguht would work well as Guardsmen, the min 6ft in hight still being in place then. To add to them I have some Nenrod figuers that shoudl also fit the bill.
To add to the 53 Div troops and provide some Fire Support I picked up a set of the Resicast Vickers MG Team:
The Gunner and loader are in leather jerkins so will fit with the others from 53rd Div, the ammo carrier is in a greatcoat so I'll probably save him for something else.
It would be really useful if Resicast made a set of Infantry to match their 3" mortar and mortar carrier , although there are a couple I might be able to adpapt for that purpose, well maybe.
Cheers

Hi Pat,
Yes, I have both but haven't got round to building them yet There looks to be a lot of claen up on the weapons and tools so I'll probably replace those as I have done for the others above, to keep the weapons the same size.
Graet North Road have some great stuff, I was looking at the Dios and bases the other evening so see if I could spot anything that might make a good home for the 25pdr .
Thanks
Al

Alan- impressive work on these British figures. I've done the Wolf PIAT team myself in Irish Guards insignia. (Got mine from Archer- how about you?) I hope you don't mind a couple of pics:
I swapped the PIAT carrier's head for a Hornet one and gave him a scarf. I gave them some weapon straps aswell and I think I replaced one (or both, can't remember) of their entrenching tools with Tamiya items.
Really a pair of very nice figures- a joy to paint aswell.
I also used a Resicast Sten Gunner in a walking pose- and I too though the Wolf figures dwarfed him so I made sure to keep them further away!
I see you've also used some Scotia bases- nicely finished I must say and they are also fantastic castings in their own right.
Anyway, good luck!

Hi Karl,
Lovely work on the figures. I changed the left arm of the PIAT carrier, and I'll switch out all the rifles so that they are the same. Had to replace the odd hand that got damaged but the IG group go pretty well together size wise. The others I've been collecting up for about 6 years and will one day get them on a dio.
It's a slow process learning to paint them up half decently. I seem to go in starts and stops, but they are a big imporvement on my original efforts.#
Can't fault the detail on any of them they are a joy to paint especially the earlier figures, as the level of detail is simply stunning.
The Tamiya infantry do supply a decent set of kit.
On the transfers I used the Archer set for the 53rd Div chaps but will probably use the fingerprint design patches on the IG troops.
Excellent work.

Hey Al
Some great work getting all these blokes done... I would NOT have the patience at all... They do scrub up nice. Was contemplating sculpting a commonwealth figure or two at some stage to break up my OD tunnel-vision
Don't see enough cuppas though? hehe

Hi Brad,
Thanks, appreciated.
We are short of a medic or two. I have some good references if you're interested.
I have a mind to make some stretcher bearers from some of the Tamiya figuers, I seem to have plenty of them and mortar crews are also missing for the 4inch and 3 in tubes.
Cheers

Thanks Alan- the Tamiya British Infantry on Patrol was a gold-mine for doing British figures!
By the way- do you have the Resicast Sten Gunner in a walking pose? If you do then be wary of his left arm as it has some weird attachment to the Sten Gun- I can't remember how exactly but it messed up somehow and to correct it I gave him a new Sten and arm from the Tamiya kit. It might have been me doing something wrong but I thought I'd let you know in case you have that figure.
