These are in progress pics of Zvezda's ISU-122. The model is built out of the box with only wire added for grabs, the unditching beams plopped on the back deck, and the front and back fenders either cut off, or bent, to simulate damage.

This vehicle is part of a mini group build of SS-74, Selrach, Wildcat and myself called "Russian Bigguns"---basically a fun build of anything Russian, --- as long as its big, bad, and has a good sized gun tube.

Because of poor fit issues, this kit is a bit of a challenge. Zvezda also has the huge gap above the tracks when the upper and lower hull pieces are mated, (that was filled with plastic stock). The kit decals basically disintegrated with an application of Solvaset, and the kit tracks are pretty bad. So Fruil tracks are on order, and the vehicle number will come from a decal or stencil purchase, (although some fellow modelers here have told me at times, vehicle numbers were hand painted on--so I could try that also). I also ruined the single headlight, so only the mounting was applied to the front hull, (to assume the light fixture has been broken off). The unditching beams are from chopsticks I picked up on a recent night out.

A couple of the pics show the ISU sitting on a quickie generic base I put together to use for posing assorted models for picture taking purposes.

I used multiple shades of Russian greens on this vehicle, to add some interest and break up the slab look, and weathered with rail brown, rust, and earth. I shied away from using steel for drybrushing on this one based on past RR comments, and went with dry brushed earth and rust this time, (for the most part).

As always, comments are appreciated, and thanks.
Steve

THIS IS SO NEAT! Fine chap.

I thought OD and things are boring, but I never get bored looking at your OD stuff. This is again very well done. You should really be proud of yourself. WWH.

NEAT!

Steve:
It looks like you worked around those cha;;enges well, even know where the shortcomings are, I can't see them.
As usual your paint job is well done and features really nice shading effects.
Now where that TC fig?

SteveWWH,

You have my 2 thumbs up! I really admire your weathering technique, it's awesome pal!
I like your chopstick too, can you tell me how you painted them and what color did you use?

I appreciate the kind comments from those that have posted.

Nate--figures?---you are gonna have to give me some pointers my friend!!.---also thanks for offering to send me some decals to put on this "kinda ugly" vehicle (loL).

Octo aka Sushi, the chopsticks were washed in thinned black and drybrushed with rail brown, earth, and then washed again. I was just experimenting here as wood exposed to the elements will turn grey as it drys.

Thanks
Steve

I agree but it is beautiful in the way you have finished it Steve.

By the way I like the base. Can I order 10 of them for displaying my trucks on. #:-)

Nice one again Steve. This is definately big and bad enough!
Lovely weathering work ... AGAIN. The added wooden beams are a great addition and really add so much. With the fruils added, this will be a stunner. Only way to lift it up another notch is to add a figure. Im gonna keep at you until you start adding figures with your kits. If nothing else it will slow down the amount of stunning vehicles youŽre producing and stop tempting us to keep starting new kits.

I started AERŽs T-38 yesterday. I bought it with some airwaves PE. I bought this together for about $10. 1 very bad quality exploded drawing so it looks like IŽll be needing help for this one! Too bad its so small, or I could have joined in on the build... its not bad either .... just cuddly!! #:-)

Sushi night out?

Now that's one BIG Russian gun. I have to agree with Dave: I never tire of looking at your excellent OD paint jobs. The wood and the tool handles are nicely done. You also effectively brought out the cast texture on the mantlet. Superb job

It's looking great !

Still I have one minor point : aren't the fenders a bit thick ?
In fact, when looking from the sides, there's nothing surprising, but when you see the place where the mudgards have been broken (that's a nice detail), they seem a bit too thick.
What I'd counsel for the next time you break the muggards off, is that you thin the fenders around the place where they have been broken ! This way, they'll look more to scale.
But I may be wrong, o I may have been tricked by the photo.

WeWillHold, very nice work! Once you put the fruils on this it will look excellent - can I presume you are doing a bit more weathering? The overall colour looks good but bit it is too clean! Get a bit of dust on it !!

For markings I would have a go at hand painting them yourself - there are not to many russian vehicles that had their numbers stenciled on and if you do them a bit messy it will just add to the authenticity!

Looking good - please post some more pics once the tracks are on!

Hey, that looks great. I especially like the accents you put on the front edge of the fenders.
