I can't wait to get a hold of one. Airfix are also bringing out a Land Rover 'snatch' hard top and a wolf in 1/48. I'm looking forward to more rovers in the future. The Aussie SASR 6x6 would be awesome. Fingers crossed.

Hi Tim,
The Land Rovers above are the US Marine Special Operations Vehicle, this vehicle was chosen as it was lighter than the Hummvee, I think the original post refered to the soonto be released hard top Defender.
Land Rover have sold a number of specialist Land Rover variants to overseas operators.
Regards
Brian

I think these are actually the Ranger Special Operations Vehicle (RSOV).
The USMC replaced their M151A2 based Fast Attack Vehicles (FAVs) with the Interim Fast Attack Vehicle (IFAV), which was based on the Mercedes Benz G-Wagon. These were indeed procured because they were lighter and narrower than the HMMWV. These are in the process of now being replaced with the Internally Transportable Vehicle (ITV) series (M1161/M1162/M1163).

Hi Joe,
Firstly aplogies to the Rangers...... now that should ensure that I'm not woken with flashbangs etc....
Yup my mistake, not sure why I claimed USMC when I should know that these are operated by the Rangers. We all make mistakes....that's why it's a forum so we pickup each others..glitches! Cheers Joe.

The GMVs replaced the Ranger Land Rovers because the Land Rovers were found not to have the cargo and load capacities of the M1151 HMMWVs. As to what really happened to the Ranger Land Rovers, I don't know if they were scrapped, sold off to other armies, or put into storage. I do know that a book said they were "A thing of the past."
