Hi all
Does anyone know, if US armor were painted in some sort of primer, before being painted green? I'm building a LVT 4 with the engine covers off, so there's bound to be some chipping around the enginebay, but in what color.

Frankly it depends on the part. Some were dipped in a grey paint, some were sprayed or dipped in a red oxide paint. Some items were left un-primered. You really can't be sure unless one scrapes away the paint of the actual item. It was all part of the manufacturing process and each item would be treated as needed -- all to counfound us modelers 60 years later of course!!!!

After Roys answer ... Id use artistic license to really show up the removed covers as much as possible. A browny oxide primer would look great.

Thank you Frank and Roy. This is just another reason why I should stick with German panzers. Well, into the artistic zone it is.
