Looking forward to building these to see how they compare to the skif ones.

On the subject of T64`s, has any one got any photos or details of the T64 with https://armorama.kitmaker.net/images/tp.gifthe lead lined superstructure that was used in the `hotzone` at Chernobyl as i am going to build a model of this unusual version using one of my skif kits, but i only have a couple of pictures from a Russian language magazine from years ago.

Also are there any pictures available of another version of the T64 chassis used by, possibly , a mining company with a large superstructure with windows and an odd looking device fitted to the hull glacis plate that could be a drill attachment or maybe ground radar. The vehicle was painted Cream with Red stripes.

Also there was a really odd looking vehicle with what looked like a `calliope ` on a T72 hull that would make a really unusual model. Any pictures or details of this too please

Many thanks in advance

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm- would it be at all possible to scan and post the pictures from Chernobyl in that Russian magazine? Sounds very interesting!

If i had the means to i would willingly do so, but i use my sister`s computer and she does not have a scanner.
I can give you a written description by pm if that would be at all helpful or if you pm me your address i could photo-copy them in the local library and post them to you.
I will be doing a model of this as soon as i have cleared my bench

Mauro, you wouldn`t by any chance have some more photos and information on that MTU-64, please as i would love to have a go at one of those beasties, and the MT-T, they would both make cracking models on my T64 shelf

Thanks

You are not looking closely enough my friend, if you look at the suspension it is pure T64, but it is reversed with the engine etc at the front of the vehicle instead of at the rear on the tank.
It makes good economic sense to re-use older redundant tank chassis as APC`s rather than scrapping them, just look at what the IDF have done with old T55`s and Centurions

Hi Rick
BMPV 64 is an Ukranian conversion of a MBT T-64

http://www.military-today.com/apc/bmpv_64.htm

As Malcom rightly said, suspensions arms and engine are reversed.

Yes, of course, doing a BMP-64 from a skif T-64 would be using less than the 50% of the original kit....

Cheers

Another "Happy end" for a t-64 Skif would be this beast

Andreas, incredibly interesting, thanks a million

have you noticed that T-64 has t-72 track links?

Furthermore the T-55 conversion seen in the video is very similar to a BMP-64 building

Hey Malcolm, I've forgotten

this is the MTU walkaround

I still think the turret is too sharp on the upper front edge...

I'm inclined to agree.

Youre welcome Mauro, had to look twice myself to believe it. But I´m not sure If the turret can rotate properly in this configuration or if it was "just for fun". The also put ERA on the turret + T-64 turret basket etc. Maybe upgrade solution for 3rd world? I dont know. Regarding the T-72 tracks -> They must have changed the drive sprocket as well, right?

That BMP-55 (or whatever it´s called) : doesn´t Israel use such vehicles? Or did they the conversions on their own?

Anyway, a lot of nice possibilities to use the SKIF or the new Trumpeter kit (hopefully soon)

Yes, it's called BMP-55

http://www.poligonbtvt.narod.ru/UA/bmp55_files/bmp55.html

As far as I know Israeli conversions are quite different

Probably your video shows how to use old tank to obtain new vehicles. It isn't for fun, most likely is a design experiment

Anyway me too, I can't wait the new Trumpeter T-64
