Gino, no such thing as an ALO on a USMC tank. There is usually a FAC(Forward Air Controller) whom is a Marine Aviator doing his ground punishment tour on the XO's tank and the FO(Forward Observer) whom is an Arty Puke on the CO's tank. The antenna set up is called 'FO/FAC Mount'.
Outta here, Mike sends . . .

Hi Mike, I forgot you guys call them FACs. For us lowly Army guys that don't own our own fixed wing aircraft, we have to borrow them from the Air Force and we get ALOs to go with them. We do give our Arty pukes their own Bradley Fire Support Vehicles to ride around in though.

For those of you who are following this thread, I have reviewed Perfect Scale Modellbau's Afghanistan USMC conversion for the DML and Tamiya M1A1 (click here).
And it's a beauty, too.

Old thread I know, but Max had made a note that the 'umbrella stand' (photo copied, below) was now common, and the picture shows what looks sort of like a frame and maybe a folded umbrella. I looked at the amazing walk-around pictures on PrimePortal to see if this umbrella and frame were anywhere pictured there, but no success, at least that I could recognize. Does anyone 1) know under what conditions these umbrellas are used (i.e., only when tank is stationary?), and 2) have a better picture of the frame and the umbrella when it is deployed?
