Does anyone have an evidence that the combination of a flakvierling mounted on the back of the L4500 halftrack actually existed? I know this has been an item of some discussion before, and I know there are a few representations of this combination knocking around the web, including PanzerSerra's on this site. Several nice photos exist of the Merc Maultier with the 3.7cm flak, and a few of the L4500 truck with the 2cm flakvierling. It seems like one of these things that could well have existed (not much reason why not from what I can see), but is there evidence for it?

Shows a pretty good pic of what your looking for
I have seen this machine you ask about ..i have DVD called German Military Vehicles inc Armoured Car and Half Tracks .. shows a Luftwaffe AA unit on exercise and it clearly shows a full armoured L4500 with a Flakvierling and crew on it .
The only annoying part is that its the non tracked verison but i cant see any reason it wouldn't be mounted on one ..christ knows they mounted anything on everything when it came to AA guns .
Theres not a problem with weight either ..there's L4500 Maultier's with Flak 37 which is 3.7cm and weighted in at 1,750 kg (3,900 lb), a Flakvierling weights in at
1,509 kg (3,327 lbs) so its even less . hope this at least make's things a little easier for ya

Phill, I had seen that thread, and I totally agree with you when you say you can't see any reason why not... but you have actually focussed exactly on what I was thinking: there it is, the Flakvierling on the L4500 truck, and then there are several photos around of the 3.7cm Flak on the Merc L4500 Maultier, and then later you get the Flakvierling on the SwS, so somehow you think that there must have been a Flakvierling on the L4500 Maultier at some point.

But is there a photo anywhere? Apparently not one that is known... There seems to be only a dozen or so photos around of this vehicle that I have seen, which perhaps seems surprising considering 1486 of them were produced.

You know mate if they did build this machine then its possible it was a prototype that never made it out of the yard so to speck ,, one thing i am going to do is contact some family in Germany .. one of them was in a Luftwaffe AA ground unit ..i'll ask my dad which one ,,i know he was a crew man on a 1 ton half track with the 2cm Flak 38 .. he finished the war crewing a Flakpanzer IV "Ostwind" when he was captured ..I'll see if he remembers ever seeing something like that .
