Another big batch of Photos from
Trumpeter was lying in my in-box this morning. The subject? What, at first looks like an Sd.Kfz 251 on steroids, the ARMORED version of the Sd.Kfz.8

The people at Trumpeter certainly know how to keep things interesting.

I guess every time either Trumpeter or HobbyBoss decide to do a kit of a certain vehicle.. they have to check with all the other manufacturers first.. and if they find out that another manufacturer did that vehicle before.. then they should not do a kit of it

Another way to look at it, is why spend money on research when someone else has already dome the homework. for you.

I have been told that the Des kit is a very accurate model, and so if this is a updated version of that product then it should be even better. That said I have no personal knowledge of the Des product and so it will be up to those in the know to decide this one.

What actual evidence is there that the DES Kit was copied? That's right, absolutely NONE:
The same happenened with the M1070. People who had ALSO built the AA one said that it wasn't EVEN vaguely similar. Once again, it was cited as being a copy as well.
Oh, and the Land Rover? I checked that one with AA as well, and zilch.
Now, why is it ONLY Trumpeter & HB who are accused of this?

These posts about supposed copies of other manufacturers kits is getting each time more BORING, mainly because it happens that when we can have the actual model in our hands we find that it is as different as it may be -being reproductions of the same vehicle- from the former and alleged "base" one for Trumpeter or Hobby Boss release...
Sometimes I feel that its like accusing everyone for still being a cheater because once he cheated in an examination in elementary school... (this remembering some initial releases from Trumpeter, ages ago)
I thank both Trumpeter and HB for releasing this variety of interesting subjects -even if this gets my budget broken!- , let other people keep waiting for the next Tiger I or Sherman variant
It's not too much, but it's all we got...

An interesting subject! I'll look forward to hearing how well it goes together.
By the way, wasn't the DES kit a resin beast? I don't hear the likes of Dragon or Tasca being accused of "copying" when their lovely mass-produced plastic Shermans replicate what used to be available only to the wealthy few in expensive resin...

Tom thank you for that as I didn't know it was a resin model, and now that I do I would question how the models in question can be compared when they are not made of the same material. I say that because I was told that the Des kit was accurate and so in the belief that the Trumpeter model is also accurate then they will look alike. Comparing a resin kit to plastic and saying it is a copy only makes sense if there are accuracy issues which are identical in both products.

I personally think that GAOYUE was justified in everything he said. It seems that some people have no real lives and try to make up all these conspiracy theories to make their lives a little interesting.... PATHETIC! Especially since every time these accusations have been made in the past... when the model comes out and people start to review it and build it, everyone says that it's indeed a different kit..... BUT.. another kit gets announced.. and the same kind of accusations start again.. and before anyone actually holds the kit in his hands... Could it be jealousy?

LOL, It is getting off-topic.
I, personally don't bother if they copied smth or not, but the attitude is "amazing". It is not the first time and I guess not the last one when we see that from Trumpeter directly or Trumpeter-followers.
What is amazing, Hisham, is that you would like some people to express in more polite way, but here it is "justified"... oh really?

YES.. REALLY.. and if you can't see the difference between the two situations, then I'm sorry to say that you have a problem. This is not the first time someone throws accusations at Trumpeter without showing any kind of proof to back them up. If someone accuses me of something the first time.. and the accusations turn up to be untrue.. then they accuse me of the same thing again.. and again the accusations are proven to be untrue... and guess what, they still make the same accusations again.. and again.. and again....... after so many times (In my opinion) there's no room left for politeness anymore.
I know you're probably referring to the post about the soldering DVD and Brian's way of attacking the guy who did it and his attitude towards other (less gifted) modelers..... Like I said, if you can't see the difference, then....... ain't nothing more left to be said.
YES.. REALLY

Once again I have to laugh.
I believe GAOYUE did say PLEASE.
I also believe he has a right to defend his company.
Why was there no hooppla over Masterbox doing the MB 170 in plastic?
Hell, DES has several versions of that vehicle.
Why wasn't there a hoopla over Model Victoria doing their Fiat "Topolino" after all DES already has several models of this vehicle under the Simca 5 label?
Why was there no hoopla over MB and Dragon doing the MB G4? After all it's been availble for years from Plus Models?
I personnally have no interest in this particular vehicle, but for myself it's nice to see all plastic manufactures investing in NEW TOOLING and doing things other than the same Shermans, and Panzers in plastic.

I don't know, but I've noticed the same thing. I have my own thoughts on this, but the bottom line is that companies copying each other's kits is actually a pretty rare occurrence as far as I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Both HobbyBoss and Trumpeter have been cranking out some really nice kits over the past few years. Not only that, but Trumpeter has even gone back to correct flaws on some of their kits for newer releases/versions. That's pretty impressive.
And did you notice how nobody bothered trying to accuse HobbyBoss of copying the old Peerless 1/35 M3A1 White scout car? It would have been too easy to cry foul on such an accusation because that mold dates back to the 70's. And just on a side note nobody ever complained about the molds for that kit making their rounds between a good handful of companies who didn't bother trying to make their own tooling for the vehicle, unlike HobbyBoss who created one from scratch. Just food for thought.

I never quite understand the thread hijacking tendencies of the Web, but I for one am glad to see an Sd.Kfz.8 in styrene, and hope that Trumpeter will bring out less-exotic versions of this prime mover over time.
While the DES kit is likely very nice, it's resin and costs 142 Euros without shipping. So presumably this kit will put the vehicle in the stashes of more folks than any resin one can. That seems like a good thing to me.

Bill-C;
"Hear, Hear!"
It's about the KIT being out in styrene. Looks pretty cool to me, and I think Trumpeter ought to get a "Thank You" for jumping forward with this rather rare beast. I'll bet it will be quite a bit less than any resin edition- so, yes, I may be one of the many who could find this one in their stash some day!

Well, looking at the page-views for this item, it's reached a more than respectable 6200+.
So, putting that another way, 6200 people felt it was sufficiently interesting to actually read it. Presumably these 6200 people also aren't interested in the conspiracy theory nonsense either.
My point. Next time this gets raised (about whatever manufacturer) without fear or favor, i'm going to start administering the topic. It's now got to the stage that for many its taking away from their enjoyment by having to listen to half-baked theories and innuendo.
On the other hand, if you do have concrete evidence of the 'smoking gun', then i'd be delighted to hear it. Without fear or favor and whatever manufacturer...
Evidence that is, not hearsay.
