Good evening troops,
Got started about a week ago on this build. It will be completely OOB as I'm building away from home and didn't bring any evergreen LOL.

Got the chassis pretty much done. I will soften the dirt and grime with some pigments after all the major components are brought together.

for a little kit the parts count is huge LOL!
cheers

Can't speak about the latest Academy M1151 but the Bronco M1114 far surpasses any of the older Tamiya or Academy kits William.
Looking good so far Rick. Will follow with interest

Thanks fellas!
Joe your M1114 looks great, love the rollers. As far as extra kit goes I'm only including the stuff that came on the box, no extra packs or anything.
This is my first HMMVV of any make but I can say that the level of detail in this kit is outstanding. My only complaint so far is the powertrain, it's half hearted attempt is a little dissapointing, maybe the after market will fill the void (haha).

Hey Darren,
Ya the washroom is done LOL. Winter is on it's way and this is when the workbench gets to see some action, too much going on in the summer

Tried you on skype last night, will try again later.
cheers

The old Academy kits yes. But if one wants to build any humvee variant other than the M1114 or indeed M1113 ECV vehicles then the Tamiya kit is the only way to go and is still in my opinion a very respectable kit. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, it just needs some mods to make it into a current vehicle.
Looking forward to the build as well Rick. I just finished one myself OOTB (except for some resin weighted wheels just cos I had em) but sadly cocked up the paint colour so thats been shelved.
Theres a few things to be careful of and I can't think of all of them off the top of my head, one that jumps to mind is you need to sand away much of the little base on the front bonnet tie down loops (the things either side of the bonnet grill) left as they are the bonnet doesn't properly sit in place.

I am with Rob, I had a problem getting the hood or bonnet to sit right. took a bit os sanding on the inner walls to get it to sit right around the grill extension. I only needed a strip of .010x.030 around the hatchback to close the gaps and make seal look more correct. I did spend sonme time to add details in the interior but frankly, you can 't see much once the top was installed.
Did anyone else have problems with paints adhering to the plastic??? I used Vallejo Model Aire as well as Model Color. It was a first for me...
Joe,
Nice M1114. I like the interior work and the roller is outstanding. I am a big fan of your work, keep it up...

Thanks for the heads up on the front lifting hooks!
No issues that i can see yet with regards to the paint. I'm using MM US Army/Marines Gulf Armor Sand #4812 for the main colour and Tamiya acrylics for details.

Nice! But remove airco box (black one, behind gunner's pedestal) - it's proper for M1151. In M1114 there are spare ammo box racks instead in this place.

Well I tried to pop that sucker off today and no joy, it seems that my glueing talents surpass my abilities to deconstruct LOL. Lookslike there will be a tarp of some kind to cover it up

Just leave it and stick 3x 40mm ammo cans on top. As Kuba says, this is the 'rear blower assembly' found only on M1151, M1152, M1165 vehicles, on such vehicles a mount for 3 ammo cans is fitted on top, whereas on the M1114 this unit is absent and the 40mm ammo can rack takes its place.

The parts counts is huge! Going to try and convert mine to a JTF2 version for Afg.
I'm on TD Nov/Dec...debating on bringing the silent air compressor along for the trip!

Getting this one almost done (will post pics tonight)
The question I have is; the kit comes with 4 gerry cans but no place to put them. Are ther no brackets in these things for fuel and water cans, or are they just placed anywhere?
cheers

Great work so far Richard.
To answer your fuel can/water can question....There have been brackets mounted internally in the cargo area sometimes otherwise, there are holders mounted in various locations on the exterior of the HMMWV.
Here is an M1114 with fuel cans strapped to the back.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Here where it sits so far. Some detail painting and touch-ups left, then the decals and final weathering.
