Hello Friends

A new project here. Ok i had finished it last year. Hehe. But i think in the moment here is a Stugomania. So now I show my StuG. III Ausf.G with wintertracks from Maco. First model i use a complete PE-set. In the end there is a winterdio with 2 figures in my mind.

That´s all for the model.

First steps......

I drilled out the exhaust.

The gun. 6 parts. Nice work by Dragon.

I will cut them and use wire for new one´s.

That´s it for today.

Best Regards Daniel

Hello Daniel,

nice to see here your last year StuG III on armorama. How do you fit the MACO wintertracks around the drive wheel? The track will be not fit exactly around the drive wheel from revell/dragon/trumpeter kits. Sand it or cut the teeth off?

Hope we can see more pics of the progress.

Regards

Alex

Hello

@Alexander: Thanks for your interest.

Good evening

Next pictures.

I don´t use the PE Parts for plates. I make them thin. Think thats good enough.

The PE part form Voyager is much better than the Dragon PE part.
But in the end no one can see it. Because it´s under the back ot the tank.

The bonded wheels.

Hi

I had some problems with the tracks. The wintertracks are much bigger than the dragon parts. You can see it on the pictures.
Impossible to fix them right.

But at the end everything was good.

I little to large. But maybe it works better on a Revell or Trumpeter model.

The comparative. No chance wihtout cutting the teeth off.

..........

Same thing on the other side.

It´s ok. It looks normal from the side.
In the front i fill the holes with dirt or sheet. So no one can see it. ;-)

The finished work.

Very massive i think. :-)

First drill out. After that i cut it off.

Hi Daniel,

Good work with these snow tracks. They look just right on the tank.

Remember to put a glass on the driver's slit. I t took a lot of patience to make that conversion.

Hey Dan,

This is the first time I have seen your build log. I plan on doing this kit sometime soon as well.

You have been doing a lot of good work. For example, drilling the exhausts doesn't take long but it really helps the detailing.

As for the visor, thats weird the kit does not include a glass block. Hopefully you can scrounge that from other kits or from a clear sheet stock. The scratch work on the visor is really good too!

Its a shame you haven't gotten more comments on your work.

OMG, I didn't even see this was braille scale!!!

The cover art is the same as the 1/35. I relooked at the penny pic and then I realized. This is very good work at this scale!

Hello

@Alexander: Thanks Alex!

@Mark: Yes it is braillescale. But i hope you like it. Maybe you can have a look here sometimes and tell your opinion. :-)

It goes a little further.

The pictures:

I cut off the angle mirror (is that right? angle mirror?).

Not think about the position form that part. It´s 180° twisted.
It´s is rotating. Hope it stays that way.

I glue the upper and lower part together.

you can already see how it should be......

That´s it. Comments and questions welcome.

Schönen Tag noch

Cheers Daniel

Great kit too. I heard MACO' tracks are short. Well, seeing your pictures it is right.

@SchoeniR6 – Daniel,

This is turning out to be another interesting and excellent build log. Great job on modifying the drivers armored view port.

Good save and good idea on the tracks by cutting off the sprocket teeth on the drive wheels, its hard to tell that the tracks links are spaced out to far with this clever but often forgotten ‘get the tracks to fit on the drive sprocket’ trick. The tracks look terrific on the vehicle and you've managed a very realistic track sag too!

With all of the improvements that your making and going to make to this kit it will surly be something to see when your done.

Keep it coming!

Hi Daniel

I somehow missed this one till now.

With the PE and wide tracks, this should be another great build.

The pictures in your log seem to show that this kit 'trumps' Trumpeter in the Stug stakes.

For the vision blocks, maybe try (water based) white PVA glue which dries clear. It also doesn't melt or disfigure the surrounding plastic. I've used it effectively for small windows.

I've ready that sometimes those long extending cleats on the tracks could get bent or broken off, but in most pictures I've seen they seem to all be there. Do you plan to leave them all intact ?

with tracks around drive sprockets I mostly find your solution is the only way to get a flush fit with etch or hard plastic link and length tracks.

cheers
Neil

Hi

Thank you all for posting. :-)

@Korpse: I let all the drive sprockets on the model. I think it looks often like you have broke someone between the build. But you are right with it. I see a lot of pictures from vehicle who lost some of them.

A lot of PE´s come to the model.

New holder. I sanded the dragon part.

Very small........

Another little PE part.

I cut off the original plastic holder from dragon and use a PE part for it.

The holder for the hammer. I dont use the Hammer from the kit. So you can see the PE part better. Looks like a used StuG. ;-)

One picture form the fine eureka xxl rope.

More nexte time.........

Excellent job that you are doing, Daniel. I have this model but without the side skirts, so I'll be following your progress. Don't think that I'd be up to trying some of those PE parts, even if they were easily available and reasonably prices in my area.

Daniel,

WOW! Superb work, sir!

That Voyager PE looks excellent for what you've shown it provides.

Too bad the Maco tracks apparently are to large/wide, but otherwise look pretty good.

Keep 'em coming!

Hi

Thanks to all of you for the comments.
I´m glad you like the build.

@Jeff: Maco tracks are ok for the price you get 3 tracksets in one pack for 12 €.
A winter- a normal- and a osttrack. I think it´s ok now. But in right scale they will be better....;-)

@Jan: In the end my StuG is without the side skirts too. I won´t buy a new StuG extra for this build, so i use that one with skirts from my stock. :-)

>>>>

Little parts from the Mg-shild. I add some wire extra for the handle.

Here the finished shild. Made by 6 PE parts and wire.

The jack.....

Cutting off the handles and drill out some holes.

The finished jack. With new handles by wire and a new winder.

Makro looks a little bit bad. But it is better than it looks on the picture.

The new Hook made by wire, too.

A lot more PE´s...................

..................

Hope you enjoy the pictures of the little StuG.

Best Regards SchoeniR6

I just love these kind of step by step builds and appreciate those that undertake all the work to do them. All those tiny PE parts are positively crazy! My thanks for sharing this and showing others what can be achieved in this scale.

Hi

Not many words.
Here are the next pictures.

Cutting off the holder.....

.....and replace them with these. I must say that the pe parts are a little to big.

Lampholder replace with a pe part und a wire for the electrics.

Here with the lamp up on it.

Holder for the steelcable.
In the end the StuG becomes only one cable because the other one is lost or broken by the crew.

Here the eureka steelcable. Very good quality but expensive.

The holder where the extra tracks welded on for protection.

The hatches with some pe and wire.

That´s it for today. Hope you like it!

Cheers

Hi Daniel,
Your STUGchen is awesome.
I'm building a Königstiger from Revell and when I see all the improvements you're adding to your Panzer, well it makes me want to do the same. I just have to buy new eyes and (a lot of) time

Thanx for inspiration !

No surprise with PE, but great work with this. So difficult for me. If your see, I prefer don't use PE in my models.

Regards.

Pedro.
