Howdy all:
Well, this is Tamiya's old Pak 40. I was suprised that for an older kit, it really wasn't too bad. It was a nice project for me to work on at my desk during my lunch hours. I'm not sure if I want to use the figures that came with it, or get better resin ones. In my own opinion, I think I need to add some more dirt and grime to the model to give it that "in the field" look.
Please give me your comments & criticisms as well.
Thanks!
John

John,
Looking good so far in my opinion. Yes, some of the older Tamiya kits are really neat and good compared to today's standards. Some mind you, not all.
I would say just add the dirt and grime a bit sparingly so not to hide the beauti of this pak gun.

I just finished it last night. I had a little trouble with the sheild, and witht he barrel. It kept falling out of its slot. But I just glued it in place and it looks fine.
Also, the plate with the shovel hooked to it, I glued that on upside down. But who will know.
Let me know if you had the same problems.
I know what you mean about the figs.

Thanks for the kind words Cdave.
Chip...I didn't really have any problems with the kit. I think I almost put the front plate upside down as well. So do you know of any pak 40 crew figures that are better than the ones from the kit?
John

My advice? Leave it alone. Add a base and some figures, maybe a prime mover to show how ift got there, but leave it alone. You've done some nice sutle weathering and it looks great.

John:
In my opinion, this one is done----very well done. It would look fantastic on a small base with some figs.
Very good build/paint/weathering effort here---Congrats.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! The gun is a little bit more weathered than is showing in the photo, so I think I will leave well enough alone. I definitely want to put this in a little dio with some figures. I saw a really neat photo of some crewmen using one in the field and covering it with hay. I might try to replicate that. What type of truck do you think would look good hauling this gun? A halftrack? Give me your thoughts.
Thanks again!
John

That's a nicely done pak ! The only problem is that the german grey looks a bit too blue on it... but that's all.
I think that Nemrod has a set of artillery crew. Also hobbyfan, but their prices are much higher !

Really nice model John. No barrell join marks visible at all! I like the colour you have used and the faded look of the finish. A nice metallic look is achieved!
I agree with placing this on a base with a few figures. Would really set it all off! Hobby fan brought out two gun crew sets for the AFV release of the leFH18 Howitzer . Both are for the eastern front. As far as I know, they are very expensive!
Im sure a quick look through Dragons figures you should come up with a few suitable figures from SPGs and the likes!

What would be really nice towing this would be a Raupenschlepper Ost with a canvas tilt. Either the early steel cabbed version or the later wooden cab. There was an article of one in MIS some time ago using a 'Warrior' resin tilt on an old Italeri kit, looked fantastic!
