Can anyone direct me to photos of M5A1 Stuarts with this unit in NWE? I am wondering if they would have used the foul weather visor as kitted in the AFV Club M5A1 late kit.

I'll have a look at what I have. Off the top of my head I would say that on a Recce tank the visor would likely only be used for administrative moves rear of the line and not during combat as it would be very limiting for traversing the turret of firing the 37 mm gun.

There are definitely photos in the South Alberta Reg't history with late Stuarts equipped for the foul weather hood. You can see the external frame on the glasis, even if the hood & windscreen aren't fitted. I can't imagine that the Strathcona's would have been different.

the hood was introduced at a certain point in teh production process. So if the Strats got some of those M5A1s, then they would have had the hoods. The issuance of M5A1s wasn't terribly concerned with exactly which minor production mods went to which regiments. I'm pretty sure a mix was delivered to each unit with some tanks in a unit likely having the hoods and some not. That's about the best anyone is going to do with general statements. Anything more specific should be guided by actual photos.
