Hello everyone! After being in school for sometime and having no time to start a project whatsoever, i am finally heading into my latest Christmas build special! You know it's good by the special on the end!

Anyways, the background: I recently got into French WWII armor, which seems to be a relatively unnoticed topic in armored warfare, and even more so, a rare sight in modeling as of recent. I find it interesting many of Germany's "paper tanks" or tanks which never even got off the blue prints, actually get kits made after them (and not just by the smaller resin companies! But companies like Hobby Boss and trumpeter!), while French "paper tanks" and prototypes don't get any! Tanks like the FMC36 where some of the first to include major application of sloped armor (take that T34)! But anyways, since then i have posted on armorama asking which french tank kits where a good first build other than Char B1 by Tamiya (crazy question, right?). The French UE (another kit by Tamiya) has also proven to be a good build, but is too small for my taste. So I've decided to ask my Dad for a present this year, and make up for the price by paying half of it: and that of course would be the Tamiya Char B1 Bis!

After doing some further research, I really liked the idea of building a more individual tank, one that nobody has built before, so I chose from the long list at chars-francais.net.... and that tanks name would be "meurthe". So here's some photo reference just to show you what she looks like

I really like these photos because they show the back of the tanks turret, showing the decals I am likely to put on.

Anyways, there will be more updates by December 25th!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays! (so excited!)

Hopefully I can do an interior... but that would be a first in two years, and the first without a kit (i can't seem to find any). I'll likely scratchmake some parts and bypass AM for now (such as the little metal piggy tail on the 75).
At this point it's a maybe on a scratch built interior, mainly because I don't want so much wasted space inside the tank. Plus I've been looking for a good long project for sometime now. The great plus to that would be gaining some kind of notoriety for being one of the few (or only) to scratchbuild an interior for this kit atleast.
here's another scratchbuilt interior and from what I've read, tank as well.

IT will be a great reference if I build an interior.
Thanks!

Chars-francais.net will be a reference for how the interior will be built.
here's the link: http://www.chars-francais.net/new/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=36
Could anyone provide other interior photos or reference?

Hi Alex

If you plan to put something in the engine bay, you'll find some pics here (other pages are worth a look too...) :

Hey Frenchy,

Once again, you have proven to be the ultimate reference giver! I also got some amazing pictures of the Naeder steering mechanism from the scratch built Char B1 build log. Hopefully the plastic card/sheet will arrive this Saturday, once again, I may be in Highschool, but this build will bring back the excitement I once held in scale model building!

Now, back to drawing outlines, and reading some nifty books on the Char B1

You're welcome. Here are a few more interior pics of the B1 Bis "Flandres" at the Saumur museum :
http://maquettegarden.free.fr/Vehicules/B1%20Bis/index.xml

There are two B1 Bis tanks at Saumur : "Rhone" and "Flandres". According to Chars-français, the latter has been restored more accurately (the turret fitted to "Rhone" is an ex-Somua S35 one...)

Ok guys, quick update, I am purchasing .030 styrene plastic for the kit on Amazon.
I bought some regular plastic for moulding as well so we'll see how this build goes when it starts in about 3 days!
