well, after finishing the J.G.S.D.F. Type 90 and being close to finish my M270 MLRS I thought it would be the right time to start ont his nice kit!
for info about this kit and vehicle check my site
I already made a pretty big step with the interior in the lower hull. Tomorrow I will start with the upper hull.
Here are the pictures so far!
The box:
This is one of the pieces of the interior. the pen lines are marks of where to add brass wiring later on (when whole interior is finished)
This is how far I am at the moment:
Tomorrow I will start on the interior of the upper hull. After that I can see how the brass wiring will have to be made, and will add that
I am planning to showcase the model with open top so you can have a great interior view of the model. what do you think about that?
Any tips or corrections are very welcome!
Thanks for watching!

Enjoyed your MLRS build Borris, and now your working on the AAVP! excelent.
you may want to check out my album:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v605/andyrenshaw/AAV%20Pictures/
Lots of interior shots, and other stuff, taken while I was in the USMC.
Also, before you get too far into the interior, note that the AAVP-7A1 RAM/RS all have SINGARS radios, which is something hobbyboss completly forgot. If you get the Eduard interior set, it will give you the needed radio shelf, and some radios. You will also need to add the appropriate antennas to the outside.
I will also recomend either the Voyager or ET Models PE sets for the exterior as well.
If you need any assistance with this build, feel free to email/PM me!

thanks man, appreciate it!
i will look in your album for usable pics!
I noticed the aavp missed the radio, but didn't buy PE for this one for a reason.
wanted to make a quick build, as I use a lot of PE on my models usually.
you could really help me. I will see if I can upload pics tomorrow.
Then you can help me by checking if I could improve the interior any further by scratching. Think im pretty far already.
I am pretty far with the build itself so buying a PE set is pretty useless by now I think.
I future I will build the EAAK variant with PE.
as for the antennas, can you give me a link? preferably on luckymodel.com?
thank you man!

Not sure how to add a link to a post. You can go to the modern armor forum and look for AAVP.I've been adding A LOT of dust to mine. Wingman out.

I think I found it. but only a few pics right? and no final pics?
weathering looks very nice! It looks amazing and the sand panels on the woodland camo looks pretty cool
time to talk about my model.
The exterior is as good as done, except for the turret.
the interior has been detailed with some more scratching (see below)
Right here you can see I created some ropes hanging on some bars.
Does anybody know what this is?
I based it on these pics:
Some luggage that will be added on the inside. Is this the correct type of baggage? recently used? please tell me:
set up everything so far for the picture:
Bought some resin figures from Legend. Nice for the diorama:
Exterior as good as done:
Ok one important thing. I am planning to showcase the model in an open position (this has to be done by myself, isn't included in the kit)
Reason is cause I like something new in my collection. Therefore I would love to show the full interior clearly.
these are the options! please let me know what you think will be the nicest:
Hanging:
Flipping to the right:
Flipping to the left:
Flipping from the front:
Two things I would like to know from anyone who wants to share their opinion:
- What do you think of the interior so far? are there some thing I should really add? scratching or aftermarket? in other words, am I missing something?
- What do you think will be the nicest display option?: hanging, flipping right, flipping left, or flipping from the front?
Thanks for watching!

Those are the slave cables, used to "jump start" the tuna boat from another vehicle. Your rendition is excellent. Is it all scratch-built?
I agree with JWest, add some cases of MREs and bottled water to the interior.

As the others have said, that is a slave cable. It is basically a military jumper cable used to start other vehicles. I think you have it way too long though. They are only about 10 feet long.
The gear looks OK, but it is not really current with the figures you will be using.
Legend makes a set of modern MOLLE back packs that would work. US Backpacks (MOLLE rucksacks) LF12A9, you get 4 of each pictured.
The other major omission from the kit is the radios. They should be SINCGARS radios just behind the Track Commander on the left side.
ProArt makes a SINCGARS radio set that will work for them.
Other than that, it is looking good so far.
As to displaying it, I prefer to just have all the hatches open. It looks too unrealistic to me with the roof propped up in any position. Just my opinion though.

It's may be too late, judging by your pics, but Thachweave Products has released some rope coils designed for the AAV (inside and outside). IMHO, they really look the part (I've got some sets in the AM stuff stash) !
http://thachweave.tripod.com/products.htm
Talking about SINCGARS, you'll have to scratchbuild the rack...or buy Eduard PE set #36080

Ok thanks! didnt know that.
yep, all scratch build, not too difficult. just some wiring and plastic card.
thanks for your explanation!

thanks for your feedback on the cable and the stowage! will see if they are in stock in China
Is the stowage I currently have really not "historically correct"? As they are from Tamiya's modern equipment set
You are right about the radio! do you think I can still add it easily? the ProArt one?
they are barely visible, even in full open display, so not gonna spend to much time on it.
as for the display, off course it is unrealistic, but i want something like an exploded view. I think I will hang it above the chassis with the turret popped off too.
there is no option of putting it on normally again, made to many modifications already.
I will put plasticard on top of the engine department, therefore it will look even better, as you will only see the cabin.
still think the same way about displaying? just wondering.
thanks for you helpful feedback!
* edit I just ordered 3 MOLLE backpack sets. should be enough for some time

Real Models makes a "Drink set" which contains coolers and individual water bottles. They also make MRE boxes that could co under the benches too. Also, individual water bottles can be found in the OIF versions of the Tamiya Bradley, M113 and M1A2s. I am also thinking Accurate Armour makes water bottles

For the USMC, they are dated. The USMC started using the MOLLE gear around 2000. The US Army started using it about '04-'05. The Tamiya set has most parts that are still good; like the MREs, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, duffle bags, etc. The ALICE rucksacks are out of date though.
For the radios, it is up to you. I will be adding them just because I know they go there.
Same on the displaying it all opened up. I am still against it, but its your model. You can build it however makes you happy. I'm sure it will look good either way.

Thanks for the info guys!!
after a beautiful week in the Austrian snow I made some progress with the AAVP.
I completely painted the interior and made first steps with weathering.
I updated the turret with some brass wire:
Cleaned all the resin, included the MOLLE set!
Just after the paint job:
After drybrushing with just one color
How it is at the moment:
What left to do with the interior:
- A second dry brush with a slightly darker color than the base color
- Gloss coat, and then add decals an apply wash
- Painting and weathering all the baggage & tools etc.
Suggestions are very welcome!

Thanks Walter! you seem to be the only one
I did some work on the Amtrac the past few weeks:
- Scratched the metal bandings around the fire extinguishers (was thick plastic before)
- Applied a light sand wash on the floor
- Did some more detailling in the interior (see pics)
- Did a second drybrush with another color
- Airbrushed the three tone camo (tamiya NATO brown, black & green)
- Painted the details on the exterior (not much)
- Scratched the cover on top of the engine area (white part) since I will position the upper hull above the lower hull as an "open display" or whatsoever
The cover will be painted pitch black at the end
here are the pics:
The extinguishers:
The front of the cockpit:
I already glued some equipment in its place.
an overview:
the cockpit:
Top view, note the cover:
Upper hull:
Yeah ! the camo!
Well... that's it for now. Hope to get more tips / comments as I did with the last update.
thanks for watching guys!

The NATO camo paint came out really good. The interior detailing is looking good as well.
One correction for you. The rear tail lights are off. Only the upper left oval should be red. The rest are gloss black slits, not amber. They are part of the blackout drive lights, not turn signals.
Looks like this.

I just realised as well, from Gino's last pic, you need to cut some of them loops of the back of your figures vests as well!

I am surprised time after time about how much you know about armor, and correct me eveytime with pictures to make it more clear.
its amazing, you got a hugo photo collection on your pc or you got one hell of a website (not primeportal)

The last few weeks I have done some experiments with weathering techniques I never used before, those techniques are:
- Streaking effect
- Simulate dust using pigments and fixer (white spirit)
I started weathering with the pinwash, first I did a dark colored pinwash, after that a sand colored one.
The streaking effect was next, I never did this, and already like it, the effects are endless.
Below you can see some results:
After that I wasnt satisfied yet and wanted to make it look like it is used in the desert for a long time without cleaning.
I applied pigments to the places you would tip when you do a pinwash, after adding them I soaked them with white spirit to fix it and make the pigments spread a little.
This was my first time, but definitely not the last, I really like the result!
Now I wonder if it is wise to spray some matt varnish over it to fix everything and make it safer to grab the model etc, but I heard that makes the pigments disappear.
What are you're experiences with this? I will test it on a small part of the model, the rear hatch and let you know.
What do you think about it so far?
