Tamiya has announced they will be releasing a T55 Enigma in February in 1/35th scale. Looking at the pictures this would appear to be based upon their original T55 which is still a good model by today’s standards and this could be a winner for them. Look inside for more pictures of this soon to be released Tamiya offering.

Thanks for the heads up Darren,
I'm not a huge post-WWII Soviet armor fan...but this one looks very cool. Was this vehicle used in Desert Storm or is it more of an OIF era vehicle? May have to try building this one.

Nice,
Now to wait for some detail sets. Tamiya kits are a little soft on the detail.
cheers
One of the serious problems in planning against Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine.

You could just buy the new Voyager "Enigma" conversion - 100% PE, by the looks of it, all of those ERA boxes completely made of brass. That'll be plenty crisp :-) It'll also probably cost more than the Tamiya kit...

From the pictures, I would say the turret is new as is the upper hull.

my prayers have been heard, wanting this for a long time, but didn't want to spend a T55 and aftermarket on it, hope this one is affordable, better then scratching the beast myself!

It'll cost less than using a Legend conversion set, but you'll still need the Fruils

Newer Tamiya kits here in Canada run in the $70.00 to $90.00 range.

I took some detail pics of a captured one in Kuwait,1991.I recall that we hadn't seen anything like it before. This one looks pretty accurate, but I'll have to dig out those pics again.

Was checking the site before work this morning and saw another thread about the Tamiya T-55 Enigma and right then and there I pre-ordered mine. Can't wait. Overseas price was $50. Regular price is about $60.
Good to see the T-55 getting some love. Also want to build a Tiran.

I don't know the tamiya rubber tracks will be more than adequate for the majority of modellers with out the additional cost of fruils

Wow, I never thought I'd hear so soon guys discussing Tamiya's T-55 like it was obsolete.

Yes and I dont't agree with them at all
Tamiya T-55 kit is one of the best kits on sale. Apart vinyl tracks and gun barrel molded in two parts, details are incredibly nice and crisp and shape and dimensions are almost perfect.
...well in my opinion T-55 isn' t just a tank. Actually it is THE TANK...

Ugliest T-55 variant for me,but a welcome different one.
I'm dreaming of a good quality (and well researched) T-80 or T-90A.
Zvezda's T-90 is so full of inaccuracies

Come on Tamiya or Dragon!

Yes, me too I'm not very fond with it, but it offers many occasions to depict a really worn and weathered vehicle
We've already talked about the T-90, and as you know, I dont agree with your point of you, but anyway that's another matter
regarding the companies which could produce new Russian subjects, I believe that unfortunately DRAGON aren't intrested in them. Otherwise Tamiya on average make few new releases a year so it seems to me quite unlikely that they'll start to produce a good "T" series.
We have just to hope in Trumpeter (most of all), Bronco or new products from Zvezda
Cheers

Surprising how many new parts there are.
Looks not too bad (although a choice of Polish engine deck would have been nice). Finally a kit that I never got the conversion for!
