G'day all,
In between casting and trying to catch up on orders, I have been working on the first of 3 updates for the Showcase Models Bushmaster PMV kit.
The base kit is basic, but looks ok when built up.
However, as most of my customers know, that's not good enough for me.
So this is where I am up to on the suspension so far.
I still need to add a couple of parts, finish the wheels and do the air lines. Some parts look a little rough, but as it is only a test cast, I'm not to worried at the moment.
Cheers Jason

Woaw ! It's very great.
I remember a comparaison between ASLAV25 ans Bushmaster height.

I'm interested about your updates.

Damn you Jas Good thing I'm still struggling with my current build. I've got my Bushie sitting next to me waiting but I just knew you'd work some magic. I suppose it might be best to wait for a little bit longer to see what else you cook up in your lab.

Looks very nice so far even for a test cast ! Will it fix the ground clearance issue of the SMA kit?

Olivier- I was unaware that there was a clearance issue. Would you be able to explain it a little further? One thing I noticed when I test fit the hull onto the chassis it can sit too low if you are not careful.

Jason and Alex,
I meant that the vehicle sits too low. It has been shown in a post with comparison pictures between a Bushmaster and a ASLAV. And in another post, the builder showed pictures of the proper alignment of the wheel hub with the bottom of the hull.
SMA got something wrong there.

thanks. So basically what you are saying is since I already have mine assembled, I shouldn't set it next to the Trumpeter ASLAV?? I am definitely down for a set of the resin ones for the other Bushmaster I have

Can that be used for a MRAP too, like Cromwell Models?

Jason,
here are two pictures of Bushmaster modeled here at Armorama
The first one is strictly OOB without any correction to the ground clearance (model by Sam Dwyer)
Here another by Adam Lehmann who fixed the suspension.
So you can avoid placing your Bush along a ASLAV but unfortunately the problem will still be noticeable.

OK.
The bushmaster kit looks lowered without the suspensions update. Bad thing.
I don't understand because the master of the bushmaster model was correct !

I want to clear up the myth about the kit suspension.
I have just built one.
The model suspension if assembled correctly gives the correct ride height. Sam assembled the A arms to the hubs incorrectly. The lower A arm has to go inside the hub as shown in the instructions and not on the outside as shown in Sams build photos in his build log.
Approx 10 mm difference in ride height is the result of Sam getting this wrong.
The kit suspension parts are overly complicated, but can be built so the whole unit moves, but is rather pointless due to the rigid springs. Also the wheels can turn but the link pins are to short and fall out on full lock.

I'm really pleased to read your post. Now I know that I can build my Bushmaster and that it will look good. I only have to pay attention to the instructions
So here are my apologies to SMA.

Oliver- I checked mine compared to the corrected one and a picture of the real thing. Mine seem to sit at the correct height if I use the hubs compared to the bottom.
One thing I noticed is make sure you align the top shell of the body and the floor part when attaching the two. it is possible to push the floor too far up into the top part which makes the body sit a mm or so lower.

All right, update time!
Thanks for the comments guys and sorry for the late reply.
The Bushmaster is known as a great vehicle, but for the scratch builder, it is VERY GOOD!!! The suspension is the same front and rear, left and right. It makes it sooooo much easier to build the parts needed. It is that good in fact, that I even placed the brake calliper on the wrong side of the suspension, and it still fit (see the fist image)!!!!!
However the base kit, has quite a few accuracy issues. My updates will effectively fix most but not all of them. To fix all of the issues, I will need to make a whole new "V" bottom hull and at this stage it will not be cost effective to do that.
So here we are. The image below is the rear axle and suspension assembly, minus the brake actuator and air lines. To make make the front assembly, all one needs to do is replace one part with tie rods and linkages, swap out the rear cardan shafts (drive shaft) for front ones, and the job is done.
The wheels and rims are just about done as well.
More to follow.
Cheers Jason

Thanks for the interest, but it won't be ready for a while yet. I still have a LOT to do to the base kit.

G'day John,
The update won't be ready for a while sorry. New information has come to hand that has made this task one very big undertaking.
All that I will say is that the wait will be well worth it. I hope!!
Cheers Jason
PS, I have to get down to the museum one day and have a close look at your work.

Sorry to say, but the whole exercise is not worth it and has been shelved.
There is just too much need to be done to the base kit and that in turn would make my conversion well above what I would be prepared to pay as a modeller.
I also have no interest in bring out a "Shake and Bake" kit with a few additions. Not the way I work.
Kinetic is working on one, and I have been lead to believe that it will be a "2 in 1" kit. Dutch and Australian. From the CAD I have seen, it looks very nice.
So when they bring theirs out, I may look at this project again.
Cheers
