Maybe, but in war all things are possible.

I know, the battleships are not tanks, but they have much in common

Different pixelation, exposure and the most important - different scales. Panther gun and mantlet is bigger than it is shown on the photo.

Good luck with the rest of "strange" photos.

Hmmm. The Allies should have towed those inflatable Shermans behind real ones at DDay. The Germans would have really freaked at the site of so many tanks and would have run away.

In this photo, the Tiger on our left has chassis number 250053 and was withheld for testing by Wa Pruef 6. We are therefore on a weapons test ground.

In this photo ( See link: http://jtrowbridge5.smugmug.com/GermanarmyatWar/German-part-2-1/15596008_Wb8PtD#!i=1168694317&k=dRsdW ) is this Tiger knocked-out? Looks like a penetration on the hull side to me.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It is Tiger 731 of Panzer-Regiment 7, 10th Panzerdivision. It has quite a few penetrations and the cupola is missing.

David,

I missed the cupola and a second penetration right behind the German marking on the same side. That link you provided is pretty awesome! Thanks. It almost looks like they used it for target practice and trying to figure out where they could penetrate that beast (after the initial 'kill').

I think it's a "Tiger" made from a wrecked T-34, used for Russian tank training

I also have another strange pic:

That's a T-34 with a panther's road wheel, right?

yep, done late in the war to re-use resources when spare-parts took a long time to reach the front.

There was an attempt made to mate the Schmalturm from the Panther II design to the PzKpfw IV, but it was not successful. The Schmalturm did survive in the online game 'World of Tanks' as an upgrade turret for the PzKpfw IV (where historical accuracy sometimes takes a back seat to gameplay), but the dimensions of the Schmalturm on the PzKpfw IV hull in the game make it clear that there is no way that the picture is anything but shopped -- the regular Panther turret is wider than the Schmalturm, so there's no way it wouldn't overhang the sides of the PzKpfw IV's upper hull. An article on the CMK kit of the PzKpfw IV with the Schmalturm shows clearly that even the smaller turret hangs over the hull sides; I suspect that the original Panther turret would be big enough to prevent the driver's and radio operator's hatches from opening.
