From the squared off hood. it looks like either an M3 Scout Car or an M3 Halftrack. They used the same fromt end parts.

Could be a M3 half-track indeed :

Cheers guys
If its a M3 scout car I could use the Zvezda kit which is quite cheap, but if its the halftrack the only kit I see is Dragons M3A1 kit to which I have to folk out another £40+

Anyway thanks Gino/Frenchy

I'm sure M3A1 Scout Cars were captured as well. Who is to say they were not used along w/Ersat M10s by the Germans. It's your dio, do it as you like or to what fits your budget.

M3A1 Scout Cars were a rarity in US units in the NW Europe. That being said, I agree with Gino about making what is best for you. It's not as if this was a historical picture anyway.

Well I dunno, you've never seen Volstad's library. He's pretty good about historical accuracy, although if you mean 'he didn't copy it from a photograph' that's certainly correct.

Not the scout car .. half track for sure .. on the roof you can see the tarp which covers the roof but the thing which sticks out most ..the pulpit for the machine gun ..you can clearly see its shape under the tarp, also looks like theres a jerry can by the drivers door too .
I am in agreement with Gino and Roy tho ,,use which ever one ya want ,,it would look pretty cool either way

If you look at the first photo of the link Frenchy added it looks like a very similar scene but with snow,I wonder if there is another part of that photo and thats were Ron Volstad got his idea from for the boxart.
