This was my entry in the Urban Diorama Campaign which just ended
I learned a lot during including the fact that I need to go somewhere quiet and concentrate on my figure painting for a long time

Figures are Masterbox and Preiser, cat is Tamiya. Buildings are cobbled together from plaster casts I made from Form U Lay moulds.
My original idea was to amke a last stand scenario with embattled germans but I decided instead to use some civilian figures instead.

You can see more pics of the build in a thread on the IPMS Ireland forum

Hi Pat,

I think your dio is excellent, it conveys the mass destruction and hopeless of war.

Excellent stuff.

Pat- great work on this. I think going with the civilians was a good idea. The details and finishing of the scene is top class- especially the brick-work on the building and the sign above the gate-way.

Thanks Garth, Mark and Karl. there are so many good civilian figures coming out that it seems a shame not to use them

I wish my figure painting was even half as good as yours is. then I would not be so slow to put some figures in my diorama Pat. I think the whole thing looks great.

Thanks Dave. Like most diorama makers I put off doing the figures til last. I do need to spend a lot of time on them and do it consistently to build and retain my skills

Well done Pat, rubble and all is very good. The building overall is great. I especially like the sign (writing). Very good worn out look.
Yeah, the figures, of course they are not so good, but those figures (the heads in particularly) are really not top quality.
I wish someone would make some really nice child heads to replace the plastic stuff.

Aaahhh :-) i found one thing i do not like so much. That's the complete missing lowest row of the roof tiles.

It soesn't hurt the overall look as i had to look especially for errors and found no better :-)

It's not that the lowest row of tiles is missing but that I mounted the guttering too low I think

The over all effect is excellent and the ruin is superbly made and well painted. What I really appreciate is the fact that you made so much rubble. Usually ruins in dios have a paucity of this. You nailed that part and I agree, you did a good job with the figgies even though they are not the best raw material to start with.
Minor details like the missing keystone and lower run of roof tiles well, consider it part of a learning curve.
But then again, you are already well along that curve my friend!!

Hi Pat.
Its easy to critic a finished work .. point out things that could have been done better or not to the viewer´s taste ... but personally, I see something unique as far as buildings go and the scene concentrating on civilians, instead of the soldiers. Brave move and it worked. Another huge plus for this diorama is the composition. Skills can be improved upon with extra effort and dedication ... but an eye for capturing an idea and a feeling is much harder to learn. Nice one buddy!

Thanks Jerry, Bruce and Frank I actually got pretty far along with the military version of this before I changed direction completely and went with the civilians.

Yo Pat,

First, good job!

Sure...there is room for improvement...but I really like it.

There's a nice story in to it...
