Sorry no pictures of mine yet, haven't even started building it! Im planning the most outrageous model i'll ever do i think. Ive decided that im going to collect a few more kits to enlarge this beast and so far ive located a 1/35 flat bed wagon and a 1/35 box car with AA crew both by dragon and reasonably cheap. Im still considering adding a Kommandowagen! but what i really need is a 1/35 armoured engine (NOT RESIN). Ive heard that Revell used to produce these but i've been unable to locate them anywhere, anybody else know of the where abouts of one of these?
Ive also emailed revell and asked them if they are still out there somewhere and suggested in the dream model vote that due to the popularity of the leopold would they consider reproducing an engine. Im sure most people would happily go for one as it would sort of complete the leopold. But im sure that one voice in many wont talk them around, but does anybody else feel that they would like an engine for their leopold and would you vote for one?
Well if you feel the same way i do then heres the link
revell give me an engine for my leopold please!
Like i say this would be a massive project but and take up a whole side of my wall, but what a project it would be! #:-)

Martin, I agree, it would be wonderful! The only diesel locomotive I have been able to locate is a Kriegslokomotive by CMK, a resin kit, with a price tag of over $300 US. A bit much for me! I will keep searching thoough.

If you add an engine and other cars,it makes it an in transport mode, gun down,no crew. And put a tarp over the barrel.Make an impressive Diorama though.....

Why stop there Martin......motorize it!!!!! Install a working RR engine in the thing, connect it to your Leo, Boxcar, & Flatbed AA and you'd have a HECK of a setup for under the christmas tree this year!!!!! (:-) (:-) (:-)

Martin,
I have been thinking along the same lines for the last 3 months-
A K5 railgun, several railcars full of supplies, a flak-wagon, and a locomotive-
all parked on parallel side tracks. (Yes, I know it will be a BIG display.)
The locomotive is the problem.
Dragon's Kommandowagen/ Artilleriewagen/ Infanteriewagen kits represent self-propelled armored railcars. I.E. they could move on there own.
They could not pull a railgun and a train of support cars.
Any what, I have a Trump. K5, several Dragon railcars, some old Tamiya flak guns, lots of stashed figures-
But no V 36 switch loco. Or a V 188 freight loco. (Scratch build time?)
Andy - (and I used your your link to make a hint to Revell.)

Guys
While the idea of a dio with the Leopold and other rolling stock is a great idea,I have a word of warning for those with the Trumpeter kit.If you check out the width of the track i think you will find that in 1:35 scale it works out at a scale 5 feet which is i believe the Russian track gauge. The DML kit works out at 4'8 1/2" in 1:35 scale which is the equivalent of standard gauge track therefore assuming that any 1:35 scale loco's and rolling stock are built to standard gauge they will not fit with the Trumpeter kit.
HTH
Regards
Pete

Martin, there is nothing in plastic in 1/35. Nothing, nada... However :-) if you take a look at at Jordi Rubio's website, http://www.jordirubio.com , wait for the page to load, (it sometimes takes ages) on the left hand side, you will find a company called BALUARD listed. They are the only ones who do German Railway equipment in 1/35, flat cars, box cars and LOCOMOTIVES! They are not cheap and they are in resin, however the truth is that they are the only option available at the moment. On the subject of quality, I have heard some conflicting opinions. The reality is they are pretty difficult to build, though that is equally applicable to everything in resin.... Jim

mikeli125 - Poundstretcher used to do the kommandowagen for 4 quid, i remember walking past it when i was considering getting back into modelling, kicking myself now.
Jimbrae - so far i have located Kommandowagens, artileriewagens, flatbeds and boxcars with aa all in 1/35 plastic and reasonable prices. Im happy to share any of the info ive got with anybody else.
Pete- the flatbed and boxcar are both by dragon so the fit sould be the same as for my leopold, and all though im not certain i think it would be the same for the revell kits. Worth a try, will take me some time to build up all the kits and when it is eventually done i will have to go against the unwritten rule of placing anything at a 90 degrees on a dio or give up my room and sleep on the couch.
Cant afford a resin locomotive, seen some by cmk and they are well out of my range.

This is a copy of the email i sent to revell -
this is the reply i received back less than 24 hours later
Hopefully the development department may consider this if there is enough demand. If not it is still very reassuring to know that customer service is still very important to some companies.
Thank you Revell.

Message from customer:
Hi,
I understand that you used to produce a 1/35 german army armoured locomotive?
(ww2) is this still available and from where? If not would you reconsider
issuing this model as i think many would purchase it to complete the Dragon K5
(E) leopold which is so popular at the moment.
Thank you
Martin oliver

Dear Mr Martin
Thank you for your recent email. Unfortunately this kit you are enquiring
about, is not deleted from the range, and as far as I am aware, we are not
likely to re-issue this, however I will pass your comments onto the Product
Development Department in Germany, detailing your recommendations.
Kind regards
Annette Mead

The big 1/35 beast is too much for my wallet and too big for my apartment! I recently picked up a Hasagawa Leopold at our local IPMS meeting, but it is modeled as Anzio Annie was captured---without the breach block. Do any of you big gun packers have any refs for detailing the end of my mini beast?
Another thing, does anyone make the small engine used for moving the gun when it was emplaced on a turntable in 1/72 or HO?
Thanks

bluebear,
ive been searching high and low for a 1/35 engine and im coming across some interesting sites for armoured trains, i think it'll be far easier to find the engine in 1/72 they always seem to have the pick of the bunch when it comes to model choice. Im pretty sure ive seen some, many on links ive been searching for but as its 1/72 i haven't paid much attention.
However when ive finished collating my sites i'll post the links for you and any one else thats interested.

Hi. You would think that with all the reliance put on the railroads by the Germans in moving their various war equippage around to the various fronts, and the vast number of photos of various items on different railroad cars, that there would be quite a calling for the various types of R.R. equipment of this period, from the engine to the caboose. I would think that it would have a pretty good reception from the modeling field.
Take care, sgirty

I forgot who the manufacturer is, but the turned aluminum barrel costs $55 US. I saw a picture of it, and it looks like the barrel of a sawed off shotgun!! must weigh a ton also

After a long search for a engine, the cheapest i could find in the region of 100 euros was on the jordi rubio site suggested by jimbrae - thanks.
Which one would you go for though
Locomotora BR 60 Alemana
or
Locomotora diesel WR 360 C14
or finally
Locomotora vic 75 Alemana
According to military modelling the last engine is recognised as being the work horse of the wehrmacht bahn.
Im torn for either the first or maybe the second choice. Which one would you choose?

Have to admit that Dora would make a killer kit even in 1/35 scale!

I think I would go for the first one. The one with the armored looks. It looks fit for the menacing looks of the Leopold. (:-) (:-) (:-)

the steam engine would be the logical choice. It would actually be the most powerful and probably the only one that could lug that beast successfully. Make sure you double check scale on those engines, they might be 1/87th
