I ordered mine from Lucky Model as well and got it in 5 days with normal postage so I think I did really well.

I have been comparing the wheels in the kit with the ones in the AFV Club M41 upgrade and there doesn't seem to be too much between them in regard to detail so now we know the kit has the correct drive sprockets included I may just go with the kit wheels and suspension.

Regards
David

revisiting the whole suspension wheel thing- The kit uses the Skybow wheels. Is the suspension also Skybow? Reason why I am asking is my Duster should be here today or tomorrow but the AFV Club wheel/suspension set isn't going to be until late next week. Just wondering if I start it, should I leave the whole kit suspension off until later or is that part the same as the after market

So everyone can compare for themselves I have taken some photos of the wheels and suspension from the M42A1 Duster Kit and the M41 update set.

The M41 update set does have slightly better details but the locating lugs seem to be in different postions so not just a case of swapping, you would need to make sure you are getting them in the right angle also I think the shock absorbers are slightly shorter so would need lengthening.
Hope this helps

The AFV Club outer road wheel is in two parts and therefore portrays the rim inside the wheel nicely. I suppose that's the major difference between the two:

Build is near the end. i have painted the chassis and the inside from the turret in olive drap.

The drive train is temporary in place, waiting for the M41 roadwheels. Tracks are too red, I need to repaint them.

Great work Pascal, althought I'd go for a much darker green (more blackish) for a Nam vehicle.

I acctually on my way to the post office to pick up my own Duster!

Anything to add regarding the build? Anything to look out for?

Cheers,
/E

Thanks Erik. I agree with you for the OD shade, next paint will be darker.

Yes there are some pieces that are not in the notice;
Beware in the box there is a little piece of paper with modification for the original notice.
Stage 1 and 4 inversion from the towing hook (I miss this point and my hook are wrong)
Stage 17 I dont understand the changement and stage 39

Notice is totally missed the rear hull box and the telephon box( find on each M42 in VN war)
Box : piece L40 & L11
Telep^hon box pieces L25,L7&L8

Hiya, Frenchy,

I hope that you are well, my friend!!

Great images, as always!

I like the addition of the ACAV shield to the M-60. It also looks like one of the two has a second M-60 (sans ACAV shield) mounted at the rear of the gun tub.

Additions like these --- and some of the Dusters which have added makeshift wooden storage racks --- will make for a unique vehicle.

Along these lines, I wonder what interesting aftermarket decals we will be seeing soon... Some of the Dusters have some fun and unique markings.

Perhaps Vladi at Bravo Six will sculpt us an amazin' crew set!

I have my fingers crossed that the new Duster will be mine for Father's Day!

Much Aloha, amigos,

Johnny B.

And by the way, great work, Pascal!

Thank you for taking the time to take and post build and reference pictures and share with us!!

Are you going to place this one in a diorama setting...?

That is much appreciated!

With Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

I'm building this same kit now and it appears AFV Club forgot to number the part for the handle, for lack of a better term, located in the inside of the driver's and (co-driver??) hatches. Does anyone building this kit know which part number it could be? I thought it was B49 but that is for the outside of the hull, just above the first wheel and directly outside the driver's hatch. I like this kit but it is very over-engineered, in my opinion. Took about 4 or 5 (tiny) parts to make a hinge in the front cover. And I am discovering subtle omissions in the directions that are annoying, but fixable with care. Be aware of this if you build this kit. It is a very nice model, having said that. But you must work slow and jot down notes or have a lot of patience!

I think I answered my own question but it could help if you want to display your model with the hatches open. I am using parts B 46 & 47 (they supply you with 2 sets as you need the first set in step 10 & 11. I found an image of a wrecked Duster in Prime Portal with the hatch open and the handle sure looks like B46 & 47 to me, so I am going with it. Plus, I looked through the rest of the steps, and there is no call out for those parts anywhere else. (after the above mentioned step, of course) Hope this helps.
