Looking good so far. I saw the in-box review on PMMS and it looks pretty nice.

Too bad they went with the Skybow-based suspension though. The AFV Club M41 suspension is much better with lightening holes in the idler wheel, mud holes in the sprocket, and better detailed road wheels with a deep undercut dishing, and nice return rollers.

Have you considered swapping out the suspension for the AFV Club one? It comes as a separate set and would greately improve the look.

AFV Club also does a really nice individual link T91E3 track set that they should have included as well.

For the rest of the level of details, I think they took a shortcut on the suspension and track.

Thanks Gino. I have seen this information on ML. but they dont give more detail. With you comment, now I understand the differences, I can buy the M41 road wheels set and track, mine are not glued.

Roy this is the new AFV Club Duster kit.

Nice work, Pascal... My Duster is in the mail, so I'll be following your build to watch out for any problems.

Gino, the problem with that suspension kit is that it's extremely difficult to find.

This is the only one I was able to find online

Looking forward to seeing you build progress

Thanks Hisham for the information. The road wheels set is very hard to find. i find one in germany and the second one with your help. but model hobbies dont have the tracks.

i think using the AFV M42 vynil tracks, they looks very nice.

Those were the only ones I was able to find so I really didn't get to compare prices. Looking around, I see for about $7 USD more I could have bought a whole AFV Club M41 kit and just swapped wheels.

A correct idler wheel :

Actually, that is the rear sprocket with mud release holes and was the same on the M41 and M42.

The idler is at the front and has different lightening holes, as such:

This style was not used on the M42 though. It was used on the M41.

Gino- so the correct idler wouldn't be in the AFV Club suspension set?

The one in the AFV Club suspension set is the slotted one for early M41s and M42s (not Vietnam era M42A1s). You will still need one of the AFV Club M42A1 kit ones or an extra from the M41 suspension set for the idler.

Hmmm. what's already in the box is hard to change now but they should really go the Bronco way (M24 turret style)and release just the wheels as a new cheap extra set (including an extra road wheel as idler).

Anyway, looking forward to follow this build. My Duster is in the mail and sadly I won't get it before the holidays

Cheers,
/E

I got the AFV Club M42 in the post yesterday and I have AFV Club M41 wheels & Track upgrades on the shelf that were going to go on a Tamiya M42 so it looks like I'm good to go with this.
Are there any other issues that need noting prior to building?
Regards
David

I wont be getting this (current intention), as I have the Tamiya set including almost every possible AM set to dress up the Duster, including the road wheel set. When the initial reports cam out, I was half tempted, but now Im changing back again .... Im thinking wth some extra care an a bit of elbow grease, the Tamiya kit can still be dressed up. I think its a bit dissapointing to see all the hand grabs molded on and solid tie holders on the turret. Will be following this thread to see if I change my mind again.
