Not that I have built a whole bunch to compare but I did rather like the tamiya universal carrier. Nice and easy.

My favorite models are all WW2 armor.
German: Tamiya Pz111, Ausf. L/Stug.111, Ausf. L
U.S. Academy M10/Achilles
British: Tamiya Chromwell
IMHO, If you want a WW2 model, any of the above will fill the bill.
