Hey Nicolas, from the begining to here is fantastic so far. Figures are really something. Your water idea is looking very promising. Though I uae water in most of my vignetts, I am no master of it yet. Looking forward to the end result here. Kind of reminds me of the dead swamp in the lord of the rings where Frodo almost becomes entraped with the dead spirits. As usual, my expectations are at a high point with your work. Hope all goes well with the water.

Thanks Bob, yes there is definitely something of the marches of the dead, that's very well seen
Actually it went alright with the water, transparent enough. I wish you good luck for your own attempts

After some 4 or 5 days pouring resin coat after resin coat I got that :

looks eerie. It looks like this when I put it on my table (no particular light effect)

And now as viewed with a light behind -just for the spooky effect

That is just a masterpiece of work you have there Nicolas- I was wondering how the whole thing would look lit up and it appears eery indeed, it captures the very idea of this piece so well. The color tones on the soldiers works very effectively, as do the plants in the water in creating interesting shapes. Truly inspirational work.

Hey Nicolas, very exceptional turn out. Came out better than I thought. Feel as if I better take a deep breath as I get drawn in. What did you use to tint your water. What ever it was gave it that dreamy type look. Just another fantastic piece by you. I think I will have to break my form and try a vign. from one of the stories in the book I told you about. I really like the way the water looks in between the figures. I have an idea now using a bright warm color radiating out to the cold dark deep blues, can almost here the anguished cries already. Congradulations. What else could I say, unless I took out a dictionary .

Simply amazing! Reminds me of the "dead marshes" from The Lord of the Rings. Guess these Germans lost their way.

Hey, Harry Potter had such a scene in the swamp to!

During the day it suddenly occurred to me that i wrote complete nonsense here. The scene i was reminded was from the Lord of the Rings where Frodo was drawn into the swamp full of dead bodies or ghosts, whatever it was.

thanks Karl, yep I am happy about the colours, but what worries me right now is how will it match baba's colours etc. And the base too will be a tricky one to build, oh well..

Thanks Bob, you managed incredibly well without a diction nary . That's oil paint I used for tinting, different doses of it on 6 coats or something..

Thank you Pawel, she will be looking down those poor souls

Thank you Matt! Indeed the dead marches where a part of the inspiration there, I also read about soldiers getting trapped in the Prypiat marches etc, all of this fits together

Merci Nicolas tourangeau comme moi

Well Claude, there is something with an icy march in harry Potter too, but HP doesn't belong to my inspiration much, there's is more depth in LOTR IMHO

thanks Bill, thanks Kenny!

Thank you Mauro, well, it's not yet finished you know.. several times here I saw some incredible models once built that were savaged when painted, so I tend to be really cautious concerning the outcome of that one.

Here is Baba "babe" Yaga after a lot of extra trimming, a new right hand and thinned down ankles and wrists, she is now ready for paint.

But the scene progressed too, here is the bridge painted with acrylics -a 10 minutes work, improvising with white black, brown and green

A bit of mud on one of the corners, and there will also be some dead branches ave the underwater ones, some are seen painted on the right of the picture.

The surface of the resin is not that glossy, thanks to the product I used to help unmoulding the block. But a good coat of varnish by the end of the work and it should look fab'

Well, I wasn't referred only to the job quality, I was refereed to your "building philosophy". Your jobs always look like something which can't be considered only "kit modelling"

Anyway, Impressive progress! It's awesome indeed!

I felt a chill run down my spine when I saw it ...

Once again outstanding work!! I love to see your original vignettes, they are always well made with custom figures.

I love the colors on the bridge, they really give it a lot of depth and interest for relatively small part. I think 'Babe' Yaga is looking great and I'm very much looking forward to see her all painted up.

well Nicolas, I cannot added more that othr says with best english that me... but I think that we must find some category other that "military modelling" for your dioramas... these are done with military figures, but not are exactly military modelling, I will continue thinking about it

Sorry gents, I had a sudden ruish of work to do, so that means that indeed the diorama was finished without further posts. Really I "just" had to, paint Babe Yaga and add a few leaves..

But first a few personal messages

Thanks Augusto!

Thanks for this Mauro, there is probably more philosophy than actual work getting done when it comes to me

Thanks Vladimir, happy you fell something seeing the scene, I hope the final pictures will do this again

Thanks Thomas, well here it is below, quite macabre but colourful actually

Thanks you Karl as always!

Thanks Kenny, and you Jerry!

Ah! well seen Carlos. I suppose those are the result of a mix between fascination and disgust for all things military really

Anyway here are the completed pictures. I took almost 1 week to do those and they are not even that good. Fact is, as the water is see through, if i put the small diorama under a black background, the water appears to be black while it's a mix between dark tan and sky blue.
So I mostly had to arrange things so that the diorama was laid at a 45° angle so that a few light could pass through the underside.
I wonder wether it would be a good idea to make some chicken legs feet to the base so that the diorama would be displayed at roughly 5 cm from the ground. There fore I would always have light from the underside. More to think..

It really is awesome to see this whole piece of art finished. The colors and tones you have managed to achieve throughout are stunning and the contrast between the white clothing and perfect skin of Baba Yaga and the deathly pallor of the soldiers is magnetic to the eye. The interaction you've managed to achieve also works well as seen from every angle you've photographed the piece. Many congratulations Nicolas on this fine piece of work- a true masterpiece.

Ok, you officialy beat yourself here!

Good choice of colors for the girl, the contrast could not be bigger.

Feet under the dio probably will not get you enough light .
How about a Led light build into a void? Switch on/off as you like.

Really love that one, more artistic is not possible.
