Yes, it must be so. In the reference pics which I gave you, all the tanks have later track links

Well, that's embarrassing
In deed Mauro, the tracks are later type, but, I really, haven't noticed them... I was looking at the turret details and missed them

No please!, it wasn't a criticism Orestis! My aim was to agree with your previous statement

Mauro, the comment was not intended for you by no means!!!
It was self-criticizing!!!
If I have looked the pics carefully,I would have answered simply "yes"...

Hi,

I like what you are doing. Some day I will do almost the same what you do but with the to-55 kit from skif and an Tamiya t-55. i seems that you are good provided with detail photos of the tank so i post two "in action" photos.

These pictures were made in 1988 when the soviet naval infatry was sendt to sumgait in the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic to stop the anti armenian pogrom. I know the qualaty of the photos is bad but t-55ad in action photos are rare

I don't want to upset you but unfortunately there is no SNI T-55AD's too. I saw this film. Clearly showed army tank crew members and army markings on the tanks.

@Luty No problem you didn't... maybe a bit. But seriously, now you have explain me how you can recognize these soldiers. They wear these (very cool) winterjackets and ushankas both was also weared by the naval infantry, or? I thought that these tank belonged to the naval infatry because i read that the troops which stoped the riots consited of paratroopers, marines and the parts of the dzershinky divison. So my conclusion was that it would be logical that these tanks belonged to the naval infantry. I have to confess that i don't know mmany details about the event in the caucasian region in the end of the 80's and many of the information on the internet are influenced by the political problems which still exist in the region. So maybe my information that the naval infatry was involved is wrong. About the markings i have know idea i just no that the anchor is the symbol of the naval infantry. I'm very interested in the soviet army but the markings on their vehicles are still confusing to me maybe you can bring a bit light in the darkness.

Luty, do you think it's a coincidence, that T-55AD's were deployed in Sumgait, along with the Marine divisions???

I mean that the Dzershinky division, was a Ministry Of Interior security division and had no T-55's in that period. The airborne divisions also didn't had any T-55's and according to several of my sources regarding SOVIET (not Russian) army, the Drozd system was not used in the army.

Now seriously, what are your sources??? How can you be so sure, about the SNI, didn't had T-55AD's???

Jochen
I can't particularly much to say about this topic. But something is possible. Naval Infantry tankers were dressed in black hats, not gray. In the Naval Infantry didn't wore breeches only trousers. In the Naval Infantry wore a short leather boots. And...as you know an anchor on the left sleeve.
On the SNI tanks except the Naval flag, or an anchor can be painted emblem of unit. Which are they, I can not tell you. But on the tanks from the film unit were emblems of Transcaucasian Military District.
Before to the introduction of troops in Georgian Poti SNI units didn't participated in internal conflicts in the USSR.

Orestis
What are my sources and why I can be so sure about the SNI didn't had T-55AD's?
Please see my photo gallery. I hope you will understand everything.

All the best!

Hi Taras

While I was Looking for references which could be useful for Orestis I read on a Russian forum ( http://www.gspo.ru/lofiversion/index.php/t34-2251.html ) that Т -55 АД equipped with "Дрозд" (Blackbird) system were used during the Afghan war

According to your knowledge, is that true or false?

cheers

Well... I Realized that I haven't posted any progress here.

I went with the original idea, for an SNI tank. It's not complete yet, as the data lines, are not done...
