Alan,

Try here for a picture of the fitting on the hull side.

Sorry but can`t get it to work so i direct you to the HMVF Tracked vehicle thread BARV Gallery Page 3 Post 20.

The link works from there.

Progress so far.

Version 1

Version 2

The vehicles sported 4n x WD numbers so I'll have to see if I can get another set of the old Tamiya decals to help out there and the 2nd conversion can wait until next months budget.

Cheers

Al

Hi Folks,

Looking at the references I have there are several different finishes to the front hull and I've replicated these from left over PE and parts as best I can. I need another turret to finish the second one off and I'm not going to add tool straps as I intend to dump a load of kit on top. I also need to fashion a stowage box for the front of each which lived below the 75mm and may mean removing the tools from there but I've added them until I get the boxes built.

Steph is kindly sending me the missing WD numbers for the sides of the vehicles so there will be a slight pause while I await their arrival. Each vehicle had 4 WD numbers front/rear left and right hull sides. I've fashioned a gun cover from tissue paper to see the result which is better than I hoped!

The 3 fittings on the front of the hull appear to have been for a tow rope.

Progress so far

Hi folks,

Progress so far on the 2 Grants.

I have added some detail around the front fenders that was missing on the kit and I hadn't originally noticed. I hope to get one completed this week.

Hey Alan! nice work on your two Grant's. I'm building one in 1/72 at the moment..I was a tad stuck for reference material. I'm building mine as one that was used in the Rhine Crossing.
Cool work its good to see the weathering stages already. Keep it up.

Great builds. Love the interior.Good execution on the tools
and fixtures. I think your OD is too bold, try and fade some
areas,and maybe some dusting

Hi Todd,

Thanks for looking in and the thoughts. The British used SSC No 15 Olive Drab. It came into being in early January 1944. This came in three varieties, one for spraying, one for brush painting and one for Canvas and tilts.

The British shade of OD was a greener shade than that used by the US and where SSC No 15 was not available a Dark Green or Dark Brown could be used although it is not exactly clear what the alternative dark green was.

The OD colour is much debated but it is clear that paint batches varied a lot and that there was most probably many slightly different shades/tones.

I'd already started on the dust and mud thanks.

Cheers

Hi Steph,

Tamiya Dark Green and Olive Drab with a touch of yellow Ochre. About 50/50 and lightened up with the Ochre.

It darkens a bit when the Klear and a wash is added.

Hi folks,

Well the first one is about done. I added the front stowage box and a bit more dirt. I've added a figure for scale.

The first came out like a Gem, The weathering and top
flat coat made a big difference. It's always the way it
goes during painting stages. She really looks the part.
I like your 75mm cover, did u use tissue? It gave nice fold
affects. Markings & tools look swell. Great Job !!!
Another 79th FUNNY for the shelf.

Hi Todd,

Many thanks. Yes, tissue for the 75mm cover, I built it up in several layers. I didn't add any straps to the tools but I will probably add a load of some sort as time goes by.

I photograph in natural light so depending on what the weathers doing, time of day etc all effect the pictures.

It's cousin is awaiting the arrival of another conversion set but it was a good way to use up and re-cycle the hulls that have been sitting around for several year and more.

Cheers
