Hi All
I am currently building a Tamiya Thunderbolt Bubbletop. I used the new Alclac-2 type lacquer paints on the fuselage, and wing sections. But when reading articles about this paint they say not to use a clear over spray, as it will dull the finish. So now I'm afraid to use a wash of oil paint, and white spirits over bare lacquer paint, without a clear coat of Future, or other clear, between the two. I haven't yet tried spraying any Future on the Alclad, to see what it looks like. I'll try that tomorrow.
Has anyone else tried this stuff? And if so, what did you do?
Any Ideas ?
Thanks All !!!

:-) This is my Revell P47N Thunderbolt, finished with Allclad 2. The decals were applied direct to the painted surface, then 2 coats of Klear (Future) were applied (brushed on) prior to washing/weathering.
The wash toned down the to shiny Allclad nicely, a bare metal aircraft, IMHO, during the war would not have been overly shiny :-)

Hi there tek2
Mal's quite right, NM finishes were often quite dull. It's huge job to keep an airframe polished, and aluminium oxidizes quite quickly... just check out a green-house frame.
I've yet to tackle a NM finish seriously but, when I do, if it turns out as well as Mal's Jug, I'll be a happy Bulldog!! :-)
All the best

Thanks Guys
Boy that Jug sure looks nice!! I think I can see some off colored panels, a little darker than the others. Thats some nice work. What kit is that, and what scale? It appears a bit different than mine. So I guess that I won't be afraid to spray a couple of light coats of Future on my Jug. Then get started on my wash.
You guys really put my mind at ease. Thanks for the quick response, and to any others that may answer my question, or throw some advise my way. I knew I could rely on this group!

Can one use any gloss black to undercoat the alclad, or do you need alclad gloss black? If you can use other paint, enamel or acrylic?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi cfbush2000
What information I can find says, for "Alclad High Shine" colors (Highly Polished Aluminum & Chrome), any high gloss dark enamel or lacquer paint can be used as a base coat. Alclad gloss black just happens to be lacquer. For regular Alclad use Tamiya plastic primers white or grey, auto primer white or grey or Future/Klear floor sealer/polish. Check out this site, press application button on the left.
