Well, now that the time has come that I am close to finishing my USS Essex CV-9 I thought it would be nice to get something new started.
In late 2011 HobbyBoss released this beautiful looking kit and I couldn't resist buying it.
E.T. Model has been so kind to send me review samples of their products for the M1070 & M1000 HETS, so that is gonna be fun!

I got these extras:

  • PE Set E35-131 M1070 Truck Tractor

  • PE Set E35-132 M1070 Truck Tractor Interior

  • PE Set E35-133 M1000 Heavy Equipment Trailer

  • Resin wheels ER35-042 U.S. M1000 HETS

  • Resin Wheels ER35-041 U.S. M1070

I plan on buying some stuff from Voyager model as well. The anti IED sensor looks pretty nice I think. Any pictures of the real vehicle with this sensor are welcome.

Well, time for some pictures:

What am I gonna use:

The PE set for the M1070 Exterior

The PE set for the M0170 Interior:

The PE set for the trailer:

The resin wheels for the HETS

The resin wheels for the M1070 truck

When you open the box you'll be overwhelmed with the content:

All the sprues laid out

The 11 PE sheets from HobbyBoss itself (front and back), some clear sprues, decals and six bags of detail items and screws, spring wire, duct wire etc etc.

HobbyBoss has done a great job on this one!

Thats it for now! time to get building, I can't wait!

Any comments or tips are very welcome!

Hi Boris,
I too was impressed when I saw this kit, in fact it is what got me back into building plastic models.

This review shows some parts that are not shown in the instructions:
http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/reviews/showReview.aspx?ID=2244&Type=FB

And if you are interested I have started a Tank Transporter Campaign due to start Oct.1st and goes till the end of next year.

Cheers Rob.

It is just an expression. In simpler terms: the total number of parts/pieces.

Just started my trailer last night. I thought the hard part, the cab, was over. Holy cow, just getting the parts for all ten axles off the sprue was an olympic event in itself, and I still haven't gotten to the wheels and brakes! I have to say though, this has to be the funnest and most enjoyable build I've done in many years

Whaha, yeah, I dont know if I should look forward to building the ten axles. it is top of the art scale modelling. Well, its a challenge and I like challenges.

The last days I have been busy building the gooseneck of the trailer. Realizing that this was the easiest part of the build, I know I will be very busy with this build!
But I like it, and thats important!

The gooseneck went together very well! and is detailled with some PE from E.T. Model.

Here are the pictures:

Let me know if you have any questions or corrections.

Thanks for watching!

Very nice and very clear build.

Thanks Milo! yours is looking great as well!

Well, I have been very busy with the M1000 trailer the last two weeks but am proud to say I almost finished it with the extra PE from ET Model as well.
The build of the trailer is a lot of fun and very challenging because of all the duct, PE and aligning everything the right way.
Please scroll along with the following pictures to learn more:

this was during the progress of getting the cables / duct where needed.

The control box of the M1000 trailer (I guess?) the left one shows ET Model's and the right shows how it would be without ET Model.
The hatch can be opened and closed.

The storage box on the left side of the M1000 trailer. again, left ET Model's, right HobbyBoss.
Note the hinge and the lock.

one more shot of the storage box

The control of the front supports of the M1000 trailer (see next pics for more)

Everything done! except the road wheels, those will be attached after painting.

A shot of the rear

Note the locking system from ET Model

The control box and the wheel chocks

Now I would like to know what those things are!??? so I can place them accordingly

Same goes for these things, what are those?

A nice shot of the rear of the M1000 trailer, note the chains and spring combination. see further for more shots

One more small detail. the pin can be removed and the ?? What are those?? can be taken out

A shot of the left side

A shot of the right side

Lots of detail here

Same goes for this side of the M1000 trailer

For some nice impressions, I placed my AAVP-7A1 on top of the M1000

The wheel chokes in stored position

They can be removed as well

Again, note the detail of the chains and how they are connected

Now were starting with the bottom of the trailer bed

Loads of detail here

The connection of the "gooseneck" with the M1000

the storage box seen from underneath

Detail shot of the hydraulic axles with all the cables

The last shot, the bottom of the rear left

I hope you guys enjoyed this update as much as I enjoyed the build of this beautiful kit and PE set.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated, so are the answers to the questions above some of the pictures.

thanks for watching!

May I ask if you used the kit hose? The kit hose has wire inside it, did you remove the wire? Also how did you attach the hose to the fittings, the attachment point is so small.

Sure! I used the duct wire from the kit yeah.
What I did is remove the pointy extensions of the attachment point from the kit parts. That way you have a flat surface to attach the hoses.
I think its stupid HobbyBoss added those extensions and included a filled duct. would have been way easier and made a lot more sense if they delivered hollow hoses that would fit over the extensions.

I attached the hoses with super glue, just hold it for a couple of seconds and its done, try to attach it the right way and not move it anymore. When you made a mistake and remove it and want to attach again it attaches very difficult (the superglue).
Thats my experience with it, let me know if this answers your question

Hollow tube was what I thought came with the kit.

well i started out on the bottom scraping off the weld bb's on the gooseneck and grinding out bad welds when the robot welder would run out of gas. later on i helped the guy on the gooseneck boring machine resizing the bores where the lift cylinder and the pivot tube go. I also spot welded the studs were the ID plates go on and bigger ones for the handle on the gooseneck.

one thing i don't see is on the very tip of the gooseneck where the air lines would hook, there is a flat place, on it the welders would weld the order numbers of that unit.

did the model come with the APU unit? it would go under the stairs on top of the gooseneck, it supplyed hyd pressure so you can raise/lower ,steer, and raise/lower the gooseneck,

to me the funnest part of the day was when they would flip it over, the suspensions were put on the deck upside down, they had a big rotaing hoyst out of the roof and they would put big straps around the deck and roll it over.

these are bars to adjust the width of the ramps, you pry them left or right depending on the load, you stick the poinded end in the hole and use those notches to pry it , if you search youtube you can find vids of it.
