Dear all modelers
Could you tell me the method to paint the tracks?(both rubber and metal tracks)
and could you tell me the difference between a plastic barrel and a metal one cause it seems the same after you fix it into the kit.
I am going to get Armo or JR's Tiger barrel,do they has any rifling inside and can i add it?which company's barrel for Tiger has rifling?
For the Armo one i saw there are three parts but how can i fix it to a Tamiya kit?i ask this because in the kit there are just two part in the barrel but the third part in the loading breech.
I will get the products in a few hours, please reply me as fast as possible
Thanks for your help

Hi Tim ...no tiger barrel has rifling because you couldn't see even if it was there...There was one made last year but he only made 100 of them and you could remove the muzzle brake as on the real one...I think it was by Presision barrels or something like that...I had e-mailed the owner about the barrel but I could not justify spending $55.00 for a barrel. Most Tiger barrels are pretty good I have one from Eduard ...Jordi and Lion Roar...all in all pretty much the same except the Lion Roar one is missingthe bulge before the muzzle brake but is okay if you use the muzzle cover which is supplied as an option... As For painting tracks what I do is paint them a mixture of black and dark earth ...I then ground up alot of different pastel chalks in the dark brown thru to orange browns ...I add some thinner to the mix and spread it all over my tracks...you let this dry for a day and you will see the rusty colors deep down in the cracks and then you follow wiith a drybrushing of humbrols steel to the parts that make contact with the ground surface ...of course if you are doing your tracks covered in mud well that is another story..

For barrels.. AM barrels in my opinion are by far better than the warped kit barrels. once in a blue moon do I get a kit barrel that I can get almost seamless and warped fee.. other than tha they are terrible. I usually buy JR turned alluminum bareels b/c first off the just look better and there's no hassle with putty and clamps and everything to try and get a kit barrel good. As far as rifling for a tiger.. I don't think you'd need it, after all TIgers have muzzle breaks so you wouldn't see the rifling. Unless you were talking about a Jagdtiger, they don't have muzzle breaks.
Usually AM barrels can easily fit into any brand of the AFV you are building. Barrels are pretty universal. If you get the right AM barrel for the AFV you are build than there should be no fit problems at all. Cehck out JR they have a description for what vehicle to use what barrrel on.
Hope that helps.

For me I use gunmetal color or mix matt black with steel color for the tracks. Then depending on the diorama , I drybrushed with steel if the tank on the street , dark earth or rust if the tank on the ground. Sometimes I add putty in between the tracks and paint it with dark earth color to represent mud. Some pastel dust for more realistic weathering effects. No harm in trying.........

Tim,
Usually, AM gun barrels are simply slipped into the mantelet in place of the kit parts. As to tracks, I use the following technique:
1. Spray the the tracks with an overall coat of red-brown auto primer (in the spray can). This serves to give an even base color and seal the tracks (it even sticks to vinyl!).
2. If necessary, I detail paint the track (usually a very dark gray on tracks w/rubber pads).
3. Use a thin overspray of dirt or mud-colored paint and randomly cover the base coat.
4. Lighlty coat the tracks, in and out with Polly S dust.
5. Give the tracks a dark brown wash.
6. If using plastic or vinyl track (w/o rubber pads!) lightly drybrush chrome silver on guide teeth and use gunmetal on areas of ground contact. If using metal tracks lightly sand the tracks with an emery board to represent wear.
Remember: rubber parts don't rust and don't wear to silver. Also, most of the paint finishes I use are applied with an airbrush, so you can get really sublte results. HTH
Regards,
Georg

It's not hard to choose a barrel. All you need to know is what kind of model it's for. For example 7.5cm PaK40/3 is a Marder IIIM barrel.
