How about the armor issue? If M2 plain, which I don't think they make anymore, it'll be 14.5mm AP just like the Stryker and LAV III. If M2A2 Bradley variant even without the turret, that's 30mm AP armor, which is a huge difference from the Stryker. Even the USMC has 14.5mm armor now with their LAV SLEPs and AAV7s with EEAK add-ons.

Your over thinking this....the AMPV program is a support vehicle that won't see direct combat that much.

As for the armor issue, yes the Bradley variant will have more armor, but it will also be more expensive to operate per mile then a wheeled based vehicle. IIRC, I took a look at the RFP for the AMPV and it stated something about operating costs in addition to per unit vehicle costs.

According to the Geneva Convention, you are not allowed to use .50 cal or above against personnel...
Shooting at soldiers canteens with .50 is perhaps "ok", but with 20 mm or higher is perhaps a little overkill

When the choice boils down between you and "them", "them" always ends up first in a long line of losers.

I'm a firm believer in the saying, "Too much ain't enough." When I was in the Army, the TOW PLT SGT in my unit, SSG Jose "Elvis" Rivera instructed his gunners to bust open any fortified fighting position they might encounter with a TOW missile if the crap hit the fan.

Hi gents. Interesting discussion. What does a double V hull mean? Is this a new thing?

Double-V hull means just that...there are two plates of V-shaped steel to deflect blasts upwards and away from the Stryker's flat-bottomed hull...or at least that's the understanding I got from it.

That is correct, there is also an empty space between the two layers of V-hull to dissipate the blast as well.

Gino, have you ever rode in a Stryker? I've been inside the FSV at an airshow once, but haven't ridden in one. Comments on the ride quality?

I have ridden in one. It has a pretty smooth ride since it is a wheeld vehicle. They are pretty peppy too.
