Hello,

I'm back into modelling after a very very long break.
I started off with Tamiya M10 Tank Destroyer 1/48.
It was quite hard to start again but I enjoyed every moment, from tutorials to building, painting and weathering.
I'm going to publish some photos, please let me know what you think and what I could have done better.
Thanks.

Fabio

Hi and welcome back to models

From what I see in the 2 pics it came out real nice! The weathering is heavy but logically spread out as it should. The only other idea would be to have more color variation in the mud and dirt to avoid too much monotone color. That M10 is a great kit so excellent choice as a come back to modelling.

....and since you must be ready for another kit, why not join the 1/48 campaign here on Armorama and get more feedback during your build/paint process. Click the enlist button in the link to join.

Fabio, welcome back to plastic military modeling. Just how long were you away from the hobby? I was out of the hobby for more then 30 years, so I can attest to just how much things have changed in that period of time.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of really heavily weathered US armor. I rather follow the used but not abused theme. Nothing wrong with that technique if that's the course you want to go. As Jeff said, a little more color variation in the dirt would help to pop the highlights.

Hello guys,

Thanks for your comments.
I definitely got carried away while testing several weathering techniques!!
I will try and add some tone differentiation as you suggested and be less heavy handed next time.

@Greg: thanks for the link, I will join that soon.
@Joel: it's been more than 30 years for me too, the amount of changes is really amazing.

Bye for now.

Fabio

Those jerry cans looked a bit odd with nothing holding them up to the hull so last night I made a mod using common office staples cut to size, a bit of drilling and lots of patience!
Here are some pics, of course now those holders requires painting and weathering...

Your background had me fooled for a minute! Only then did I realize the M10 had a slight lean to it that wasn't natural. Very nice work Fabio, welcome back to the hobby.

Welcome back. I love new builders just because of the tricks. Would never have thought to use staples as jerry can racks.
The weathering fits the base to a t.
