Thanks, Brian, this IS good news. AIM is one of the best kits I've ever built, hands down.

Of the two releases, which one is the "best" one to get? I have a chance to get a really "great" deal on these and I want to get the best one.

What I recommend is that if you want to build an AIM, get the AIM. If you want a SEP, get the SEP.
cheers
One of the serious problems in planning against Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine.

The M1A2 SEP is slightly better, IMHO. It has better tracks -DS with separate styrene track guides vs the indy links with integral end connectors in the M1A1. These look funny around the sprocket and idler wheels because the end connectors don´t follow the curve of the track.
Otherwise both are great kits and for most people it all boils down to the version or camo they are looking for. But, as stated, if you are just looking at kit quality, the M1A2 is a better deal.

I just received another backordered 3535, on Saturday, which I ordered from Burbank's House of Hobbies in February. I plum fergot about the damned thing until I opened the shipping box. I wonder how much I paid for it?

Sprue Brothers sez that the MSRP is $53. Dragon USA Online's MSRP is $44.95 each for 3535 and 3536. Dragon normally lists the MSRP as the price online. Other web stores sell them for $39.99 to $42.99 (regular retail price). How can Sprue Brothers' MSRP be more than Dragon's? The latter range is what I paid when ordering my armored company's worth of Reptilian Flamethrower brand M1s from other shops. What SB is doing is identical to the B.S. electronics/camera stores pull when they want to maximize their profit margins: inflate the MSRP, then advertise the product at the actual sale price, thus, creating the illusion of a bargain. This is why I won't order any more items from the Brothers Sprue. I won't accept the explanation that this is probably what their cost for the kits is. They have a much higher volume of sales, when compared to other retailers; yet, the smaller shops probably get their stocks from the same distributor and can offer a better deal.
This might seem petty BMW'ing in the grand scheme of things; but, the extra scratch unnecessarily paid for stuff adds up to a lot over time.
Tirade over.

Yah, I ordered the M1A2 from HobbyEasy and it came out to $54.00 CAD w/o shipping, which seems more then they were when they first came out? I think retailers are capitalizing on the demand right now. Imagine that!

The originator for this post has both of these kits for the right price and also offered a discount of 10 percent off his retail price Not a bad deal I Think and I Wont pass on his offer, and yes those above mentioned retailers would be taking advantage of the popularity of these kits and maybe it has something to do with the Tamiya release.
Cheers Ben.

I totally agree with you on the Brothers Sprue tirade.I kinda figured once their main competitor was history that the true light would shine through. Also I guess being an importer also gives you a license to set your own MRSP.Don't all these retailers get their kits from the same factory? How come Scalehobbyist can undercut SB?JAC can do it too. Also this "superfast shipping".Well I'm sorry, just because I receive an "electronic shipping info received" notice, that thing can sit there another day till it's picked up and sent to the sort facility. This in my humble estimation is not "shipped"So this,'my order was shipped in 15 minutes "is a bit ludicrous.Geeze....wheeeze.All done now,has to take more blood pressure meds.
Rant off

My local Hobbytown USA says they can get both kits for $52.09 each from one of their distributors.
They are having a buy 2 get one FREE sale going on now to the end of the year.
That is 33% off. I will probably get 2 M1's and one other kit to take advantage of the sale.

I think you will be disappointed, but that is just my opinion.
Having built both Tamiya's M1A1/A2 OIF kit (and earlier ones) and Dragons AIM and SEP, I can attest that they are light years ahead of Tamiya's in detail and appearance. So what if they are a little harder and a bit more fiddly to build. To me, they are worth it.

Have to admit that I'm a bit curious whether they fixed the warping of the main lower hull parts or not. Took some effort to get my A2 into OK shape.
Regardless I'll probably get another A2.
Unless they release an Aussie version.

The Tamiya Tusk is listed at Stevens International for $92.00. I for one simply cannot afford $92.00 for one tank.
Sorry Tamiya

Check this at Luck Model, Hobby Easy or Hobby-Space. There, they have lower prices for sure.

Marco,
Even at their prices plus shipping the kit is still quite expensive. I just can't see me paying around $70-75 for a tank kit.

Scalehobbyist.com has both kits for 35$. A2 SEP is still back-order right now. Pretty good site to order from if you haven't yet. Never had problems with them.
What cheek! Let them have it!

Ordered two of the M1 SEP's and got a DML Pz IV for FREE at my local Hobbytown USA. I am trying to keep my purchases local if I can.
