Hi all,
It's been a long time since I posted so I best fill you all in on the details of what I've been up to, I bought this kit when i first came out and couldn't stop building. It's one of Trumpeters better offerings. Anyway some pictures, still not finished the weathering yet.
The only aftermarket harmed in this production was the RB antenna base and the Trumpeter workable track links, I'm currently working on the crew figures which are from ICM and Masterbox with Hornet resin heads.
Enjoy
Dan

That really looks nice! Great job on the weathering! I've been meaning to build one of these for years. My only suggestion would be that I believe the insignia on the search light/ir device is for parades. It would counteract the camo to have a bright red banner and star.

Thanks Matt, I found a few ref pictures with the Soviet Army crest on whilst on exercise, here's a coupke I found on the net which show quite well. Can't take credit for the pictures.
Kind Regards

Great job! Can't wait to get mine that will be coming in next week. Are the working tracks easy to put together?
I am currently working on a Tamiya T-55A and a Trumpeter T-62M (Afganistan) or the fictious BDD 1984 Mod as Trumpeter calls it.

No major issues Mark, all the links are molded very well, no flaws such as ejector pin marks, out of the whole box only one link that just didn't click into place.
They also fit the Skif drive sprokets perfectly,so if you have the Skif kit knocking around they are perfect. tbh the kit supplied link and length are all you need, i just prefer to paint the tracks off the tank and fit them last thing.
Enjoy the the Kit you really won't be disappointed its a real gem of a model. No major issues through out the build and nothing that needs to noted that could catch out any modelers.

Dan

Yesterdays work, I've been working on the crew and I'll admit
that painting figure is really not my strong point so please be gentle with me. Still a bucket load to do.
Some more pictures of the tank.
Cheers

Danny- this is a really fantastic build and paint job. Are those the seperate release tracks you used? If so, how did you find them?
The stowage item (is it a tarp?) on the side of the turret is a really nice touch- did you make that yourself?
The paint job and weathering look spot-on- a nice dusty and well used finish.
The crew is expertly done too- I'm thinking of using some ICM figures myself- which kit did you use? They are realy nicely painted and finished- particularly the faces.

Great build, what did you use as bases for the figures? Specifically the driver, I was going to add a crew to my T-64

Many thanks for the comments guys,
I'll try and answer all your questions now :-)
For the figures I used the great resin heads from Hornet, Modern Soviet Tankers, they are really well done and I think a must if you are not using full resin figures.
For the base figures I used the ICM set from which I modified the loader and the commander came from the Masterbox WWII Russian tankers set.
The Driver was modified from an old Tamiya torso figure from
a US Army set that I had lying around, he works well as yo can only see part of the body and all I did was remove the shoulder holster strap.
As for the tarp It was made from Magic sculpt and lead foil, easy job to do and I'll do another one for the next 64 that I build for sure.
The tracks are well worth a mention, they are fantastic, go together like a dream, out of the whole box I only had 2 dead links that wouldn't click and stay in place so another win for Trumpeter as far as I 'm concerned, they also make the painting much easier as you can add them almost at the last minute.
Feel free to ask anymore questions, I'm looking now at getting a base sorted for build to display her properly but I've also started the Skif 2S1
Kind regards
Dan

Danny- thanks a lot for that info. I must definetly look into those tracks, they look to be a lot less hassle than the kit supplied ones. I agree about those Hornet heads too- I have a packet of them lying around somewhere and they are real nice.

No problem Karl, glad to be of some use, you won't regret the tracks at all , so much easier to work with.
Still following your great build so keep it up fella !

Time for another update,
Started this afternoon with a bit of diorama work, nothing too special, just something simple to set of the kit. Made from an Ikea picture frame with the glass removed and backing board hot glued to the inside.
Cat litter and some other model railway scatter material used, I'll be painting and pigmenting the area and using a friends home made static grass machine. Hopefully you'll get the idea of what I'm doing from these pictures.
The base is still very wet and wood areas are masked off to protect them. Loads more work left to do, I'll be blending in the tracks to the ground work after basic painting. should give a better impression of the weight of the T-64.
Stay tuned
Dan

Thanks Chaps some great comments.
Anyway I've been a bit busy with work and not had the time to do anymore with the T-64 and base until the last few days. Here's the latest progress pictures. I'm just waiting to pick up a static grass machine from a friend to start the grass laying.
Thinking about adding some ferns and other vegetation
