Hi there!
I can well remember the time when fabulous Tamiya FAMO hit the market. Oh yeah, the biggest German half-track in styrene! Now,many years later,we finally have the next in size from Trumpy (I mean non-armored artillery version). I myself hope it is great, but: their Sd.Kfz.6 is poor, Sd.Kfz.7 is so-so. Hence is my question: does anyone here have it in stash and what's your opinion/impressions from that kit (overall fit of parts, accuracy and so on).
Thanks in advance, Paul

Trumpeter Sd.Kfz.8 opinions anyone?

I sneaked a look at one of these in my LHS. The sprues looked clean with virtually o flash. If anything the parts looked a bit low on detail but nothing that could not be improved. Can't comment on fit etc but to be honest, for the price here in the UK, I will probably buy it. I'm about to start the Bronco Flak 41 and will need a tractor unit. I've also got my eye on the Bronco artillery half track but this has more parts and more detail but about the same price.
Hope this helps, Regards, Andy.

Hi Andy!
Thanks for your comment.I'm a big fan of half-tracks in general and German branch of these vehicles in particular. After googling a while I personally came to a conclusion Trumpy Sd.kfz.8 lacks canvas tilt and rifles, plus I don't like rubber tyres. That is all.
Bronco's Sd.kfz.6 is at my workbench now. It is an excellent kit (although substantially smaller), but not without its issues as well.I could give you some tips on it in future if you want to.
P.S.:the Flak looks impressive when assembled!

Hi Paul,
I may take you up on that since I'll probably buy the Bronco one shortly. I'm still curious about the Trumpeter 12 tonner, so I may pick that up too and build them both side by side.
As regards the Flak 41, I'm currently hunting for some reference photos as I suspect I'll need them. Prime portal springs to mind...
Cheers, Andy.

I haven't bought one yet, but here's Terry Ashley's review of the armored version at PMMS. The chassis will be the same, and except for an easy correction to the sprocket, he says it's dimensionally accurate, unlike their Sd.Kfz.6. (The latter is in my stash. It's supposedly a BN 9b, but looking long and hard at it, I figured out what went wrong: they evidently got it confused with BN l 8, incorporated features of both, and fudged the rest. Hence the undersized sprocket. No wonder you're skittish about buying their 12 tonner!)

Hi Paul, thanks for the info. The flak41 photos will come in very handy, Bronco instructions are very good but photo references are always good for carpet monster part placing.
I've decided to get both half tracks so the 12ton track photos will be useful too.
Kevin - thanks for the links. I'll have to keep an eye open for the armoured variant.
Thanks to you both, Cheers, AndyC
