Robert,
This sounds like a fun build.
One question: is a stone street considered a 'man made structure' (it is man made but I'm not sure if it falls under the term 'structure')
Cheers,
C.

Hello Mister Reading
I think a street would fall into the human made stone structure category. Structure is quite a broad term but what I meant was something man made from stone. Not a natural thing like a rock formation.

Robert, I agree about the story telling aspect. This campaign fits in with my current appraoch to diorama design so I'm looking forward to it. I see the size limitations as being a real challenge.
In hindsight, I'd probably not use a M4 Sherman for something like the hedgerow scene because it would take up so much of the available room. I'd probably use a Stuart and use the leftover space to try to set some sort of atmosphere like the thickness of the hedgerow vegetation and how it obscured the view.

As Alex said, my mind will change about a million times, probably before the end of the month! Also considering putting some 'distance' between subjects by using different scales. Maybe that's a bit ambitious seeing as I've got no physical set-up on it yet. Really looking forward to the start date.

Hi there,
lot of talk about space and its usage. All sounds good too . But I have thought of something else, a bit of playing the words or numbers in this case:
Whats the smallest Hummel anyone has heard of?
Because I´d like to do this:
15 x Sdkfz 165 - 15 x 10.5
Paul
Hi Paul,
Would this be of any use to you...

I am using their A13 Cruisers for my effort and if time permits may do a second entry.

Hope this helps.

@ Steph
Welcome to the Postcard Challenge. Looking forward to your ideas.
Hi Robert, I think I'll go with a kit in 1/48 or a figure in 1/35. yet nothing stopped, there is a lot of time.steph

Robert: Great idea for a campaign. Also, compliments on the dio's you exhibited on page 2. I like the way you worked your name into the street sign.
For the man-made element, must it be stone? Or are other man-made constructions allowed, such as wood or brick?
I think I will sign up for this either way. Just as soon as I can find my metric scale

@ Charles, Peter, Travis and Zon
Welcome to the Postcard Challenge. Please go by the campaign office to officially enlist. Makes it easier to distribute the waterfall of ribbons
@ Alex
I'm pretty sure that before the startdate the best idea will be fully distilled. Looking forward to see that happen in this thread.
@ Christopher
Well I'm in the same boat. Really trying to crystallize that one idea. But as with everything this will change a lot. Forced perspective that is a pretty cool idea as well. Again a lot of possibilities there.
@ Travis
Don't worry. It is not a contest. And it doesn't matter if you are a Pro or venturing into the world of diorama for the first time. It should be about gaining new experiences and skills. And to do this collectively. So if you have questions or are stuck on some things do not hesitate to ask. There is a lot of skill present here and we will pull you through.
@ Steph
Yes I hear you. And that is exactly the reason why I set the start date a few months forward. Planning is just as well a part of the creating a diorama process.
@ Zon
Thanks. Glad you like the idea and thanks for the compliments. What I like is how the two diorama's I posted contrast the progress I have made in 10 years time. The first was my very first diorama here on the site. And the second was posted last year. And boy I got a lot of new skills during the year. And I actually sign all my artworks allthough in some cases it is less obvious then the sign.
As for your question. It can be a combination of wood and stone/brick as long as the basis is the stone.
I like how this is going guys. I like the enthusiasm and I hope we can keep that up together to make this diorama campaign a succes.

So I've had a think and I've changed my mind also, still keeping the cutaway can with the large IED hidden away behind the doors, now think that I should use my IED robot I have and add in Black Dogs IED controller into it. Looked at my 'taliban' men I have and they more in a attacking role than a 'guarding a device' role. I like how the small size of this means I can cut the van and it will show another part that you wouldn't normally see.

By the way... The Maus has been under the shrinkgun
...And at 7 something cm that would fit
LOL, at 1:144 I could probably put in two! Well, my stash dictates 1:35 so I'd first exhaust all options before going for Braille or even smaller. Good to read thru a lot of creative ideas here -- an incline / slant surely does "increase" the area to play with. Am still on the wreck / knocked off scenario... or probably a vehicle on a collapsed bridge...
I like the sniper dio you made -- quite cool! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Tat

See it sometimes takes a bit of thinking but as you can see the ideas get stronger that way. And what you ended up with till now is factually a variant of the idea you started out with but that still fits in the boundaries of the challenge. And maybe it will change again before the start date. Who knows. I have began on dioramas and after a while I really started loathing my own work. Took a boxcutter and cut out the only bit I liked and continued on that.
@ Tat
If it continues like this the months prior to the start date will be equally enjoyable as the campaign itself. All the ideas so far are good.
Thanks for the comments on the sniper dio. I will pick it up from my parents house. I never made real good pictures of it and even though it's age and my inexperience at the time there are some pretty smart rulebenders in there (Well I think they were smart back then.) But the pictures in that really old article don't show them very well.

hehehehe Don't let the size scare you.
I have another example of what can be created in small spaces. This is an in progress Scifi-ish diorama and the base dimensions are 11cm x 11cm

Yes, I was quite surprised at how large it is
Lucky for me I have some 4x6 picture frames to use as a base. I might even have an idea for what to do if I can find the bits in the stash.

Ola Guys
Hehehe Zon... You can create a world in that dimensions believe me.
And thanks for the compliments on my race dio.
@ Jose
Well The rule of a started vehicle counts only for those people who choose to add a part of the vehicle into the diorama. This means they will cut it up. In fairness to the others I have to say that in all the other circumstances you have to start with a new kit.
@ Paul
It is still one of my favorite ongoing projects as well. tried to get the illusion of speed without it actually moving. Scale is 1:35.

just ordered my EOD controller from Lucky Models..... now all thats left is to sorce my 'van' and parts for my large IED. had another thought, the inside of the van is going to be dark, not sure how to deal with this, thought about a small light but not sure how that would work, also thought about replacing the roof with clear plastic to allow light to pour in... going to have to think about this one.

I just checked in the Campaign section of the site and noticed that after 4 days we already have 18 people enlisted. I am pretty pleased with that.
Welcome to the latest enlistees to the Postcard Challenge.
@ Alex B
That all sounds well to me. About the van I thought I understood that you cut the front end of the van and have the backend in the diorama wouldn't that let you have a clear view on what is inside? Also with that I think enough light should enter to see what is inside. Or did I completely misunderstood you?
@ Jose
Welcome to the challenge. I'm really looking forward what you are going to built. I have seen some of your other work and that shows great promise for your entry.

Robert, how about those emplacements with a tank turret sitting on top of a concrete structure -- will that qualify as well? Cheers, Tat

Tat, I would think that would qualify. I asked about it earlier in the thread and Robert said it was okay. What type of turret are you planning on using? The Panther turret won't fit without cutting off the barrel.
