Hi, for my next dio am planning a Sd. Kfz.222 Afrika korps. Would like to know the color scheme that I have to use for the vehicle and the german soldiers, type of building and the overall landscaping. Any link or pictures will be helpful.
Thanks,
Sudeep

Hi Sudeep.
For the vehicle, I'd use Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow. Not sure about DAK uniform colors, though. Perhaps shades of Khaki, perhaps.
For the landscaping, I'd use sand, with bits of kitty litter for stones. I don't know what types of building kits are available out there for North Africa, but you could always scratch build a stone well. Maybe some palm trees to go around it.

Steve

Sudeep,
Another idea could be the 222 is stopped at a Bedouin camp, as the DAK often dealt with them. Google Bedouin tents. Here's a link to some images that I found.

There were very distinct "tropen" camoflage schemes used in Africa.
Originally all vehicles were in the then standard Panzer Gray. This soon changed to RAL 8000 2/3 with RAL 7008 1/3 camo. This lasted to late '41-early '42 when it changed to RAL 8020 2/3 RAL 7027. In '43 vehicles began arriving in the now standard dark yellow

will give you all the info required.
On a side note "Desert Yellow" is a term and color Tamiya made up.
Early battles were fought in Libya east to Egypt. Picture relatively flat rocky areas with scrub brush short gnarly trees and some date palms. Later the fight was in Tunisia, so a more temperate climate with taller trees and mud.

There are some builds on this forum concerning desert buildings in smaller scale but still the same non the less.
